About this ebook

Annie is an Amish girl that likes to do things her way...she's always been a little stand-offish in the community and has a quirky sense of humor that no one seems to get. She spends a lot of time alone and sometimes eats too much to comfort her loneliness. Her sister, Eve, is the opposite...popular among the boys because of her beauty, everyone who meets her cannot help but compliment her on how pretty she is. Now Eve has a new suitor, Steven, who is a bit socially awkward like Annie. The three go out together and Steven and Annie have more to say to one another than Eve who is starting to lose interest in Steven altogether. Can Steven look past appearances and see that maybe he and Annie are met to be together? Can Annie break out of her shell and see that she is right for Steven?

    DEAR AMISH ANNIE

    THE MYSTERIOUS ENGLISCHER

Annie shifted anxiously as she stared out into the garden beyond. The window was open, a pleasant breeze filtering into the small living room. She had been waiting for almost half an hour now, and was beginning to wonder if her sister Eve had changed her mind about the whole thing.

No sooner had the thought left her mind when the front door clicked open. Annie hadn't seen anyone; they must have used the cobbled path that led from the side of the house. Laughter rang through the house - Eve's. No other sound was as musical. Annie, I'm home! Come, let me introduce you to Steven.

Wincing inwardly, Annie stood. Belatedly, she realised she should probably have boiled the kettle, made biscuits to offer their guest. Oh well. It wasn't a secret that Annie never thought of the obvious until it was too late. Brushing down her skirt, she slipped into the hall.

Eve was already in the kitchen. She saw the ruffle of her dark curls - curls Annie only wished she had - and the bounce in her step as she reached for fresh mugs. She was too short to reach the top shelf; but a large, tanned hand reached out and a tall figure stepped into view.

Steven, Annie guessed. He was attractive enough, with dark blonde hair and golden sunkissed skin. A working boy, by the looks of those broad shoulders and sturdy hands. Yet he was gentle as he plucked the mugs from their shelf, and he barely made a sound as he padded across the kitchen.

Are you going to keep staring, or say hello? Eve, hands on her hip, spun to face her. Come on, he won't bite.

Forcing a smile, Annie tucked a strand of thick hair behind her ear and stepped into the kitchen.

Up close, Steven was even more handsome than she first assumed. Bright blue eyes sat below thick brows, and his face was pleasantly rounded despite his strong stature. Boyish, she thought, and not at all like the men Eve tended to fawn over.

Hello, he chirped, a smile brightening his handsome features, "Annie, isn't it? It's lovely to finally meet you.

Attractive and polite, Annie noted with a flush. Out loud she said, you too, Steven. Eve's told me a lot about you; I'm sorry you couldn't meet our parents, but they're busy people. That, and the fact that Eve never introduced her suitors to their parents. They never lasted long enough for it to matter.

Eve busied herself with tea - and once again Annie felt a stab of guilt for not thinking of it herself. As the kettle bubbled, she reached for the sugar. None for me, and three for Annie. Steven, how do you take your tea?

Quirking a brow, Steven chuckled. Three sugars?

I have a sweet tooth, Annie defended, eyes darting away. It was surely obvious from her figure that she liked to eat. The fact she was perfectly healthy was irrelevant - even here, appearances meant something. For people like Eve, it was easy.

No judgement here, Steven assured - and his smile was beautiful. Just one for me, please.

As Annie took a seat by Steven - purposefully taking the farthest chair - Eve turned with a grin. Did I ever tell you how we met?

No, Annie muttered, risking a glance toward Steven. Truthfully, she didn't want to know; over the years Eve had courted more people than Annie knew, and hearing story after story got old. She just hoped that,
