    Rebecca Thompson put on her sunglasses and silently counted the steps it would take to reach the waiting limo from where she stood in the hotel lobby.

    One...two...three...four...

    Fifteen. Just fifteen steps and she would be in the safe confines of the backseat, away from the paparazzi peeking from behind the bushes near the entrance, ready to pounce on her as soon as she stepped outside.

    Taking a deep breath, Rebecca secured her purse on her shoulder, pushed open the swinging door, and walked hurriedly to the waiting limo. Sam, her chauffeur, jumped from the vehicle as soon as he saw her approaching and hustled to the rear passenger door to open it for her. Unfortunately, in just a matter of seconds, the paparazzi had already swooped in.

    Miss Thompson! Miss Thompson! What can you tell TV Daily about your reprisal role in Lucky Girl? one reporter asked.

    I’m sorry, Trudy, but you know I can’t discuss the details of that right now. If you’ll excuse me... she responded.

    Camera’s flashed from every direction and Rebecca was momentarily blinded as she pushed her way through the ever-growing crowd.

    Just seven more steps.

    The reporters were always annoying but today they seemed positively relentless. She was used to a few of the regulars haunting her every step, but this was ridiculous. One particularly bold reporter attempted to stop her by grabbing her arm, but she jerked away from him and continued walking.

    Rebecca! Rebecca! Miss Thompson! What is your response to the rumor that your boyfriend has reconciled with his ex-wife?

    Rebecca stopped in her tracks and turned to face the reporter who asked the question. She laughed. Surely, he couldn’t be serious. Her boyfriend, Colton, would never do such a thing. First of all, he despised his ex-wife. Secondly, he knew Rebecca would choke the life out of him if he even considered it.

    Where did you hear that? she asked.

    The others huddled around her with their microphones,
