Understand Amazon FBA

What does the FBA stand for? It stands for Fulfillment by Amazon. Think of Amazon as similar to Shopify, except for two things. Firstly, you will be selling your products on Amazon, and secondly, you will have to ship your products to their warehouse before you can start fulfilling orders. So, you will have to find a supplier and ship the products to the nearest Amazon warehouse. The upfront investment would be a little bit higher when compared to Shopify. To break it down, here is the approximate cost of startup.

Buying products in bulk for cheap - $1000 - $3,000

If you sell more than 40+ items a month, you will have to pay $39.99

On the lower end, you can get started for USD 1,000 to USD 3,000 plus $39.99 a month if you sell more than 40 products. There is also a charge per shipped product, but that will be decided based on your payout.

So, even though there is a significant upfront investment, there are still a lot of advantages. For instance, you will be promoting your product on a website which already gets a bunch of free traffic. This means you will have more success in the beginning while sell your products when compared to other methods. You also don’t have to worry about creating a storefront as Amazon would be your storefront.

So, without further ado, let's get into the specifics of starting your business from the ground up using Amazon FBA. Mostly, you will have to figure out three things before you begin to advertise on this platform:

Now the good part is that once you get the ball rolling, it takes little to no effort to upkeep the company. So, if you follow everything written in this book correctly, you can make anywhere from $1,000 to $100,000. 

In order to get started with Amazon FBA, you just have sign up and start sending your products to them. They have a highly structured store house to store your inventory, and pack them and ships them to the place of delivery when required. Amazon also provides customer service.

How does FBA work?

Your products become eligible for free shipping if they are priced at $35 or above. Free delivery options are for your products listed on Amazon. You can sell your products at a competitive price and hence get them delivered for free. The products are delivered with an FBA logo, which assures customers that the product is packaged and delivered by Amazon.

A very interesting thing about FBA is that you can take orders using other sales channels and ask FBA to return your inventory anytime. You can manage your inventory stored at Amazon through an online user interface.

A few steps are listed below for using FBA:

Step 1: Send the inventory to Amazon

·  You have to send your products to the fulfillment center of Amazon.

·  Upload your itemized list to the Seller Central.

·  Let Amazon fulfill your inventory in part or in full.

·  Get the PDF labels printed that are provided by Amazon.

·  Use discounted shipping provided by Amazon. You can list a carrier on your own as well.

Step 2: Amazon will store your products

·  When Amazon receives your products, they are scanned before storing.

·  Amazon uses unit dimensions required for storage.

·  You can monitor your inventory through a unified tracking system.

Step 3: Orders are placed by the customers

·  Amazon will fulfill the orders for products listed on Amazon or you can submit for sales not
