His Perfect Bride - Laurel Bird

    Chapter 1

Ada looked at the letter she held in her hands. Her heart was beating hard. Part of herself was questioning the idea of even doing this. She was going to leave behind everything familiar, as terrible as it might be right now, for a man she had never met before. However, his letter and all his previous ones had looked kind enough.

    "Ada,

It will be a pleasure to meet you. I have enjoyed conversing with you, and I will be waiting to meet you in the train station on the tenth of October. I hope you will have a safe journey.

    Rainer"

While Rainer was usually a lot wordier, their letters had become shorter as they worked out the details of her travel.

Dear God, Ada said, praying aloud as she finished packing her trunk. I think you have really given me something special with Rainer. I pray that you would please help me have a safe journey and take away these fears that are plaguing me. Thank you for your mercy. Amen.

Ada sat on her bed as she stared at her trunk. It was not often that a women left a well settled Eastern town to go out West on the idea that they were going to marry a strange man, but Ada had always been one for adventure. Besides, leaving this town behind would let her leave her secret behind. There was no way it could follow her.

Ada took a deep breath. She would soon be able to leave everything behind. The trunk seemed to be full of everything she would need. She didn’t even need to look around her room. It was completely empty. She had entered the house with only this trunk of things, and she had not had an opportunity to acquire any new belongings. Ada had already informed her landlady that she would be leaving. The woman had inquired about where she was going, but Ada had skirted around the answer. It was better that no one knew; her landlady tended to enjoy talking about the most interesting bits of news in regards to her tenants a bit too much for Ada’s taste.

Ada smiled at the pile of letters she had from Rainer. They had been conversing over two months’ time, and she felt as though she already knew him.

Now, I just need to wait until my train leaves, Ada
