Blue Skies and Dragon Eyes - Amelia Barlow

    Chapter 1

Thunder clapped and I looked up to the darkening sky. Angry black clouds were beginning to gather as I rushed down the street. I made it into my apartment building just before the rain started to fall. Whew, that was close, can I get any luckier? Olivia Markane you are so dumb, luck has nothing to with it. I walked up the stairs to the second floor to say hi to Jerry Grapner. He is the closest thing to a father that I have. He knew my Mom and was always around when I was a child. Jerry stuck by me after my mother disappeared 5 years ago.

Jerry says I look just like my mother. Curly brown hair, blue eyes, and full figure. I knocked on his door and was greeted with a smile. Jerry was a short man with dark brown hair and eyes to match. We talked about our day and drank some coffee.

The man I saw earlier was now in line to pay. The woman standing behind the counter gave me a nervous smile. I smiled back and what happened next sent chills down my spine.

    Hello again, Olivia

The man in line turns around revealing my ex-boyfriend Jared. He gave me his signature smile that always seemed to creep me out. He was wearing bulky jacket and sweatpants. His hair was a mess and the dark circles under his eyes indicated that he had not slept in days.

I can’t live without you, please come back to me, Jarod whispered, and he went to hug me.

My mind flashed back to how good we were together until he changed. Jarod had become a violently jealous man. He had even locked me in his house and refused to let me leave. Every time I tried, he would beat me, and eventually I stopped trying. Jerry finally found an
