An Introduction

Why are people intimidated by the word budget
? Is it because of social media’s buzz telling others what they should spend on groceries? Or should save for emergencies? They look at their own finances and compare it to these postings and feel overwhelmed or inadequate.
Every family has different financial circumstances. Incomes and expectations or plans vary. One set guideline will not work for everyone. Understand your unique situation. Select goals without basing it on the lives of other people.
That is what I did. Starting out together, my boyfriend (now husband) and I delved into the exciting life of credit card expenditures. We bought furniture, electronics, video games, and we loved going out to the movies. I admit, it was tons of fun. However, when it came time to pay the bills, we didn’t always have what we needed and it didn’t take long for us to get behind.
That’s when I woke up.
After a lot of research, I developed a system using online banking. Did you know you can automate your bill payments and set up recurring transfers to segregate money for specific requirements? This will reduce the risk of overspending and ensure you have what you need when you need it. Following my process saves time and reduces stress. Budgeting does not have to be difficult.
Included with this booklet is a guide to using Microsoft Excel. I will also teach you the basics for creating automated transactions with online banking.
If you do not have access to Excel, and are looking for a free spreadsheet alternative, consider downloading Open Office. If at anytime you have questions regarding your online banking, arrange a meeting with someone through your financial institution. Alternatively, you may find information on the worldwide web.
Please visit my YouTube channel called Nerdalific
where there is an entire playlist dedicated to video tutorials. This will teach you how to use a spreadsheet to make this budget work.
