      Preface

      I guess you could say I don’t know how to write if I'm not writing about love; it has been a central, grounding force in my life for so long. Love has been at the center of every word I’ve ever written since I first picked up a pen in 7th grade. My life is extremely centered around all the people I love; if not for them, I wouldn’t be who I am.

      I had my very first kiss when I was on vacation in 8th grade; we stayed in touch on and off through the years. When I was 23, I had to wear an eye patch for a brief period. I decided to visit Florida that year, and the same person with whom I shared that very first kiss with 10 years earlier had a heart shaped eye patch waiting for me when I
