    Misfit - David Brown

    INTRODUCTION

Shortcomings are a part of life, because there are no two people that are the same. Everyone shares one common trait; we all have limitations. Even though these limitations may seem to make you an outcast, you are still unique and valuable to God. The word misfit may be labeled as a bad context for many people. However, I want to show you, through this book, that God can flip the script, turning your shortcomings into His masterpiece. Throughout the bible we see many characters that struggled with being Misfits in every definition of the term. Some felt that they were too young, inexperienced, not qualified, and didn’t have enough, but God made up the difference.

In my personal opinion we are all misfits. If we really examine ourselves, we will discover that we all struggle with not measuring up. We deal with pressures that are internal and external that may make us doubt our gifts and abilities. However, we have a high priest that can feel our pains (Hebrews 4:15). This means that God knows our struggles, pains, and mishaps but he can still get glory from our mess.

The secret that we have to understand is that God made us the way that we are. He knows that he made us different than those around us. God does things on purpose; meaning that God needs us in the world to bring about his plans. As Christians we aren’t meant to fit in with the world. We are meant to be God’s agents of change.

Jesus said it best, I didn’t come for those who had it all together, but I came for the broken hearted. This means that God has a heart for the misfits. Being a misfit doesn’t mean you aren’t valuable. It actually means that you matter more, because you are rare. According to Psychology

Today, Misfits need to learn that they have as much reason to be proud of themselves as anyone else, despite the world’s inability, or unwillingness, to appreciate and understand their uniqueness. Just because people don’t understand you, doesn’t mean that you can’t be used by God to do awesome things in the earth.

According to Alice Walker in the historical movie, The Color Purple, All my life I had to fight. I had to fight my daddy. I had to fight my brothers. I had to fight my cousins and my uncles. A girl child isn’t safe in a family of men. But I never thought I'd have to fight in my own house. I love Harpo. God knows I do. But I'll kill him dead before I let him beat me. This part of the movie may seem funny, but it really encompasses a very great underlining message for the misfit; being different is a fight within normal society. Many misfits feel like they have to fight in order to be excepted by people. However, in this book my goal is to show you that God takes ordinary people to do extraordinary works. God doesn’t go by your credentials or qualifications; he goes by your willingness to submit to him.

According to 2 Corinthians 12:10, "That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight
