    Why Are We Here?

    This book is dedicated to the courageous survivors of childhood abuse, those who help in their healing, and to God who gives light to the journey, making it possible.

    Introduction

    You are entering my journey, really a life-long journey, except that only the last half of the journey will be told here. Living through the years of abuse has been told elsewhere. It has been a marvelous journey, marvelous because I am able, from my present perspective, to see how its rhythms seem to correspond to the ever changing, ever-renewing seasons, all held and tenderly watched in the compassionate hands of Jesus. Of course, this journey is not just a straight trail through each season, for often even within a season I found myself taking a side trip backward or forward to another season. And I recognize that seasons are cyclical, but it helps me to find some sense of progress to my journey by considering it one long year, one lifetime.

    Thus, I will look at my story through the season archetype, for it has been a journey from years of numbing emotions, emotions hidden in seeds if you will, to their uncovering and surprising growth. It has been both a psychological and a spiritual journey where I have discovered God giving me strength to survive, eventually uncovering the hidden spirit God created within me and, finally, to giving me the courage to share it with others, hoping it will help them to see how difficult, but wonderful the journey to full trust and faith in God’s will has been for me as it can be for you.

    The Seasons of Jolainne

    Fall has been advancing,

    I’m drying up inside;

    Cocoon’s wrapping round me,

    My wintertime is near;

    It’s my season to disappear.

    I’ve known the blossoming of springtime,

    Felt the outpouring of my soul,

    And summer’s warmth of friendship,

    Harvest of thoughts
