CHAPTER 1

The Introduction

My name is Saphire Isabella Origen or otherwise known as Phoenix for my high spirits and free will. I live with my mom, five brothers, and my mom’s boyfriend. I get a visit from my uncle and his second wife. Two of my older brothers go to college in America called Rochester Community and Technical College or RCTC, and I am trying to figure out why they did not stay here and go to the Transylvania College instead. They would have gone to a night college instead of a college during most of the day like RCTC. We are vampires and the monsters in the stories of Transylvania. Some people still think vampires cannot be controled and there are extremist that will do anything to destroy our kind. I hate being called a monster!

Theodore is playing twenty-one, but he is really two hundred and ten years old. He was born on New Year’s Day which is what it’s called in America. Charlene is his girlfriend. I haven’t met her yet, but she is coming here for their summer vacation. William is pretending to be twenty, but he is actually two-hundred years old. He was born on February fourteenth, which is Valentine’s Day in America. William calls himself a bachelor because he loses all the girls he goes out with; he even complains that he has no charm.

James goes to a night school called Spirit High School. It has both vampires, werewolves, and no humans. This month, James and others are going to visit morning schools around Europe and also Asia, and a few in Africa. He is going to Shadow Month School, and it is about a fifteen minute drive. He goes to school there and drives home to do homework and other things. James is playing eighteen, but he really is a hundred fifty years old. He has a girlfriend, but denies it all the time saying, I have no girlfriend. I can tell he is lying. One of my powers is being able to tell if somebody is lying.

Now it is time to talk about myself. I pretend to be sixteen, but I am really sixty-two years old. I have no boyfriend but that does not mean that I have boys care about me and my health. My brothers make fun of me, because they say I have a crush on the leader of the werewolves (or the pack). My Uncle forces us to call them dogs which I do around him, but when I am not I call them by their real names. Once I called them by their real name when my Uncle was around and he beat me.

The leader of the werewolves is Jacob or Jake as he wants all the girls to call him that. Oh please! It is the most ridicules thing I ever heard of. I try to tell Jacob that I am sorry for what my uncle forces me to call him, but the pack is always around him. The pack stays away from me. Mike says he has handled my problem and to wear some good clothes this weekend.

The last two brothers are twins Michael and Matthew or Mike and Matt. I call them the Great Pranksters. At school their names are Michael and Matthew Origen. They only go to their favorite classes and if they like the same class, then they will split up the days. They are pretend to be fifteen, but they are really sixty years old. Matt has a crush on Kathy, one of my best friends. Makaila has a crush on one of them. They dare not prank me or I will tell the office what they are doing. My brothers do not want to make me mad because I have powers, and I know how to fight in a lot of different ways.

Kathy is sixteen years old and she is a human. I have been to her house once and her room is like my Uncle Desturbor— it is not that scary. She wants to be an artist or a teacher. This weekend is my weekend to have friends over to spend the night. My brothers asked me if they could have friends over too. I asked mom if Kathy can spend the night, and she said yes .Then I asked Kathy’s mom who said yes, too so Kathy is spending the night this weekend.

My mom, brothers, and I have pitch black hair and our eyes change colors to represent our emotions. Kathy asked about it, so I told her that it was contact lenses. My brothers and I look a lot like mom so you can’t tell that they are related to Jonathan. Kathy and I really like Greek mythology. Matt hates me for inviting Kathy because he stutters when he is in front of Kathy. Matt does not want Kathy to know that he likes her, but I think she already knows.

Philip is my mom’s boyfriend. We like him because he always tells the truth and is really nice. I call him Dr. Phil. He thinks my nickname for him is funny (I call him that ‘cause William said that this man is a doctor and he hosts a television show). Philip all the time says I love you as if you were my children if I can have any. He loves mom, but mom does not want to love him although she already does. I tell mom that Dr. Phil loves her and will not break her heart. Dr. Phil asked my brothers and me for permission to marry mom. We told him to wait for a little bit longer.

Why? Phil asked.

Well, mom is not ready to get married again and if you love her, you must be patient. When we think the time is right then you can ask her hand in marriage, I said.

Okay if you say so. You are a woman, afterall. Dr. Phil says. He has dark brown hair with hazel eyes. Philip (Phil wants to be married soon or he will go crazy) was a bar bouncer and was laid off two weeks later because the bar fights stopped in ten days. After he was laid off, he became a cop and crime stopped in four weeks. Dr. Phil thinks that vampires are cool. The only way you could tell that my brothers are related to my Uncle Jonathan is that we hate each other. My brothers, mom, Dr. Phil, and I are physically and mentally fit.

We are vegetarian vampires, but we only drink human blood to heal ourselves. If we think about drinking human blood for pleasure then we drink tomato juice,which is horrible to taste. When we stop thinking about it, we stop drinking the tomato juice and go back to animal blood. (Yummy!) Animal blood is really good. Mike and Matt drink a lot of tomato juice because all they want to do is drink out of humans. Okay, that thought is really sick. I think they like tomato juice. They missed four weeks of school because of their human blood thirst. Now, it is under control. They are drinking a glass of tomato juice a week. Matt, Mike, and I can communicate with animals which is really cool.

Katharine is my mom’s name. She is an amazing first grade teacher and all of the students love her, so that means she is amazing with all children. My mom married and divorced Jonathan. She had more children but I do not know their names. I am her first daughter. My mom became tough, too. When mom divorced Jonathan we all celebrated. As soon as the divorce was over, she and her friends went to a bar and met Dr. Phil. He was drinking pop (mom never drinks any alcohol) she had pop and water. Philip asked her to dance with her and she said yes. After the song, they talked about themselves. He had no children and is a single cop. They started to date each other and when he met us, we liked him so now he is staying in our house every weekend.. Mom told us all the time that she was an ancient ruler, and she barely ever tells a lie. The only time she lies is when she use to say good things about Jonathan. She said that he was a good person. Yea right! I believe that, but I would have to wait until he is dead!

Jonathan is a deadbeat drunk and drugged up asshole. After the divorce, he married a whore called Cami. She hates not being able to tell the difference between Mike and Matt. I believe she hates anybody she is not prostituting and or giving a blow job to. I hope that she gets a bad disease then I can laugh at her and say, I was going to say you are dumb, but then I would be lying. So here is the truth, you lost your life and you also have no brains in your dumb witted head of yours. I wonder what Jonathan is like when he is sober. I guess I will never know. Cami has blond roots and pink tips for hair. She is grosser than Mike’s and Matthew’s blood thirst. She hates animals and nature. All of our animals hate her back. I trained my cats to attack her by the sound of her voice.

My cats’ names are Samantha (Sam), Elisabeth (Lizzy), and Nala. Mike and Matt have twin cats their names are Tom and Timothy (Tim). Their ear tips and eye colors are different but they are all the same. Sam is high spirited and all black with green eyes. Lizzy is bright orange with dark orange stripes (William says she looks like Garfield). Nala is all white with black paws like she is wearing socks. She and Lizzy have snow white eyes.

Other people you should know are Makaila and Elizabeth Makaila goes to the same high school as Mike, Matt, Kathy, and me, which is Twilight High School. She is a lot of fun and very interesting. She was born on Christmas- the birthday of Lillian, the goddess of right and wrong. (Okay, yes we believe in gods and goddess all kinds of them. She is sixteen years old.

Elizabeth (Liz or Beth) well Mike likes her. She loves music. She will be the only female soon to be a pack member. She also hates the pack. Charlie is her twin brother. Every summer she, her dad, and brother go to America to train in becoming a werewolf, and she hates it. She went to every rock ‘n’ roll music concert. She is a huge Rock ‘n’ Roll fan. She had natural black hair, but now it is strips of pink, purple, black, orange, blue, green, yellow, brown, and red. She gets color hair dyes every summer the same way.

Charlie is a soon-to-be pack member. He loves music and books and or magazines. Everybody also calls him Charles. He has a crush on Makaila since kindergarten. He really hates Liz’s hair color. He has natural wavy black hair, and I think it looks really cool. He loves going to America to read different books and new releases and all that kind of stuff. He goes to Twilight High School with Liz.

Sheldon, Jack, Jasper, and Jacob are the pack members. Jacob wants to get rid of the pack to be alone sometimes. A lot of girls love them for some reason. They have a crush on my friends and Jacob has a crush on me and so did his dad, Logan. Jacob says all the time,

I got a lot of genetic things from my dad like his charm with the ladies. Ha! His dad was lucky to even have his mother because he fell in love with his kindergarten crush until he got engaged to his mother. I was Logan’s kindergarten crush. I know a few things that he got from his dad and that is being chief of the werewolves and going to Twilight High, but everyone that lives here goes there or to Spirit High School.

My Uncle Desturbor went to America once and went to eighteen prisons, ten psychoboards, and twenty-eight military camps. He was kicked out of every one of them and gained a collection of torture tools. He is not allowed in America for the rest of his life or until people die or lose their memory. My uncle knows how to arrest people for cops like Dr. Phil. Kathy told me that she needs to get a straight jacket and hand cuffs for her collection. She told me to ask Phil to get them, but does not know that I already have them wrapped and ready to give to her on her birthday.

CHAPTER 2

Thursday’s Surprise

Today is Thursday. I have the same classes as my brothers, Kathy, and Jacob. First hour is biology. Kathy and I are always lab partners. The teacher will never separate us. In biology, we chose to dissect a salamander instead of a frog. I was the dissector because Kathy will not harm any living or dead thing, so she took notes. We found out that the poor thing died from a poison and that Kathy will be with the nurse or outside for the dissecting unit and doing another kind of project. Kathy said poor thing after we were done dissecting the salamander, and she proceeded to upchuck her breakfast in the trash can. Mr. Yellowstone (Mr. Rock) sent both of us to the nurse. When I got to the nurse she did her usual thing and said…

What happened to her?

She got sick from dissecting a salamander, I said.

Kathy please sit down. We sat down and waited until next hour. Scarlet, a girl that Kathy knows was in the hallway and said Jacob is looking for you and his friends are helping him. I passed Jasper on the staircase in the hallway.

I had to pass him to get to my second hour history. Jasper told me to stop, but he was caught running in the hallway and got in a lot of trouble with a teacher. I went to history which I really hate because I was a part of it, and mom, with grandma and grandpa, taught us the history they know. I am getting an A plus in history and my teacher hates my guts. When I sat down next to Christopher he was wearing a stupid smile on his face. Jacob came in when the bell rang and so did our teacher Mr. Grouch (real name Tombaberthy) who told us to sit down. Well you can guess why I call him Mr. Grouch. He is grouchy all the time. . He starts the lesson off with…

History is very important, and we must learn from history. Then all I hear is blah, blah, blah … then I start dozing off and sleep through the class. He wakes me up and asks for a review. I give him my review and a lot more than what he was expecting from me. This is the last straw. You are going to a more expert history class. I am sick of waking you up and giving you an A when you just sleep through class.

The bell rang for next hour and today is Matt’s day for Language Arts with Mrs. Primrose. I hate that class. It isridiculous, so my brothers help me with the homework. Tomas (I think) Mike’s friend said the same thing that Scarlet said. I saw Jack talking to Kathy. Jack likes Kathy, too. I could hear what they are saying to each other.

Kathy, Where is Saphire? Jack asked.

Jack, well she would be in my fourth hour class, Kathy said.

Jacob was there before me so I waited until the bell rang. Mr. Nealson (Mr. Dracula) my math teacher. Kathy sat next to me. When we looked at Jacob and the pack members they were talking on how to get me, and Jacob was making a funny kind of smile at me. I wonder what he wants. Next hour is lunch. I asked someone what was so important about lunch they told me lunch is a magical place where we can go anywhere we want and where friends can tell people everything they know. I might be able to find out what Jacob wants with me.

The bell rang for lunch. When Kathy and I got our lunch we sat down.

What does Jacob want with you? she asked.

I do not know. I will tell you during study hall. Okay.

Fine. See you at study hall. Lunch for the twins is hard, but they pulled it off. To my surprise they bought some chips and soon the bell rings so they go to the bathroom and will eat on the way to next hour. Jacob was coming up and he grins and said to the pack …

Leave us alone so we can talk privately.

Leave. He will be alright. I said. Jacob was doing that funny smile again. His smiled looked like it said that I am the king of this place (which was true. His family owns the school); Jacob is the popular boy in the school. I smiled and told myself that everything is going to be okay.

You know that you are hard to find and capture, Jacob said.

Me?! Maybe you should wait and what you want will come to you, I said.

I cannot wait until this weekend.

Why?

Well your brother asked me to come over for the weekend to your house.

Kathy is spending this weekend at my house.

Well, no matter what you say. I am not changing my mind and would wish to sleep in your room Saphire.

No, Jacob. You are not sleeping in my room because Kathy is. Besides, my brother invited you not me so you will be sleeping in his room.

Yes I am and call me Jake. The pack will come and will take up the space in your brother’s room so I can spend the night in your room.

Why do you want to sleep in my room?

Because I want to spend the weekend in your room. Jacob left with the pack. Kathy and Matt came back. I asked Matt if he asked Jacob to come spend the night and he said no so it was Mike who asked him. This weekend was my weekend to have friends over not my brothers. Mike is so dead. We talked about plans on what we are going to do for the weekend.

The bell rang for sixth hour class which is health with Miss. Lillian (or soon to be Mrs. Dracula because we are convinced she is dating Mr. Nealson). Mike had health all week and knew his fate. Before he sat down I said…

After school we are going to have a long talk.

Oh. Really what are we going to talk about? Jacob asked as usually he butts in.

Not you! Jacob you are an idiot. My brother is the one I was talking to or do I have to speak slower for you to understand, I said.

Nope! he said and walked away.

Now Mike about that talk after school do you understand me.

Yes madam. Mike said with a gulp. Kathy sat next to me and said that Miss Lillian brings inspiration to a lot of people. She just cannot find something to inspire me to have a care for health class.

Seventh hour is all about cats with Mrs. Cheshire (Mrs. Awesome) one of my favorite classes. Kathy sat next to me and Mike was behind. Jacob and the pack were late without a pass. Today we learned about why cats are important in history and their life, and everybody is looking forward to this.

After the bell rang Jacob and the pack were following me. Luckily there was a bunch of girls and I went up to them and I asked them…

Will you keep Jacob and his friend busy for me? I will pay you.

Are you kidding we will do that for free, One girl said.

Thank you so much. The girls were amazing and went over to the pack and just started to ask questions. Those werewolves like answering questions and showing off until the bell rang for eighth hour with Mrs. Lebiona (Mrs. Cool. She enjoys all the kids calling her that). Today, we will be riding horses and have riding buddies just in case we get lost or something. Sadly, Matt and Kathy are ridding buddies. There are only three pack members counting Jacob. Jacob is my ridding buddy and the horse I am assigned to is Artemis and Jacob’s horse is Apollo. Yep, the horses are twins.

Don’t take too long getting on the horse, Saphire or do you want some help? Jacob said with that stupid smile.

No, because I do not chase a tail for the fun of it like someone I know, I said with a smile already on the horse. Hurry up. I want to ride.

Kathy came up and asked:

What were you two talking about in lunch?

Jacob and the pack will be spending the night this weekend…

What it’s your weekend!

I know and Jacob wants to sleep in my room and …

No! I, Kathy will be in your room. Kathy replied angrily.

… And I, Saphire asked him to come a different night but he is coming with his friends this weekend, and I have everything handled. Trust me. They will not ruin our weekend, okay?

Alright I am not a fan of people who hate animals. Kathy says that a lot and Jack like certain animals.

C-come on K-Kathy lets ride. Matt said he tried not stutter to her, but it failed.

Coming Kathy said. I went with Kathy and Matt for a little bit. Jacob caught up in a few minutes and was next to me. The other pack members were behind the teacher asking questions.

Almost the end of the day and I had fun trying to catch you, Jacob said.

What do you want Jacob? I asked.

It’s Jake and I wanted you I think I got rid of the pack saying that I want to see you so we can talk alone, he said.

Why?

I’m glad your brother invited me this weekend.

Can it be next weekend or when Kathy is not coming to spend the night please?

I made up my mind and got rid of my usual weekend plans, and the reason the pack is coming because they still do not trust…

That is not what I heard. When we got back we had five minutes till ninth hour study hall with the principal Mr. Milo (Mr. Lazy) who sleeps during study hall.

The bell rang and when I got to study hall Mr. Lazy was not there yet so I hung around. Today, I have no homework because tomorrow is Friday and the teachers have a life too. Mr. Lazy came and unlocked the door. When I got in, I grabbed checkers. Kathy wanted to play and talk with me so we did.

Did you change Jacob’s mind? she asked.

I tried but his mind is made. He will not budge. I really tried, girl.

Alright. I know it is hard to change a boy’s mind and try not to make it perfect just for me.

Jacob’s convinced that he is going to sleep in my room.

Like hell he is, she nearly screamed.

Shh… be quiet. Well, he plans on bringing his friends.

Not unless your mom doesn’t mind having a few more girls.

She might say ‘yes’ to Makaila and Elizabeth.

Yes, Makaila and Elizabeth said.

You two come and stay the night at my place, so that Jacob and his friends can stay out of my room, I said.

Yeah .I can bring my music and teach you all, so we can form a cool band. My ma and pa says that I need to go to my friends’ place and get a life, Elizabeth said.

I will ask my dad, Makaila said. Her parents are divorced she spends every other weekend with her mother and father.

Alright. Agreed. I will ask my mom if you two can come. I will call you to let you know, okay? I said.

Yea, Elizabeth said.

Okay, Makaila said.

Yea, Kathy said.

Oh Kathy, I said.

Yeah?

Ugh… I am starting to hate playing against you. We played checkers and I won three times. We were setting up for game four until Jacob came.

Can I play with Saphire? he asked.

Yeah. I have to make plans with Liz and Makaila on what we are going to do when we spend the night at Saphire’s.

Okay he laughed. Kathy why did you leave me instead you could have stayed. You could have said ‘no’ for me. She is so confusing. Well so is Jacob, but Kathy is not Jacob. She got up and made plans with Liz and Makaila. Liz and Makaila are coming to spend the weekend over as well.

I hope so.

We are going to have a lot of fun this weekend.

Don’t you mean you, your friends, and my brothers are going to have fun this weekend. I hope he means them not me and that he does not forget to king me.

Well kind of.

Oh.. um… yea and kind of means kind of. It was a close game for Jacob, but I won.

I let you win. Next time I will go harder on you.

Yea right. You can’t beat me at Chinese checkers what makes you think you can beat me at regular checkers I said. Kathy came back and we started picking up the game. I look over at Mr. Milo sleeping and kids stacking things on top of his head.

Two minutes left you guys. Kathy said. She is the two minute warning person, so the kids can start unstacking things off of him. It is just impressive that a person can sleep through all of that.
