Awakening my Destiny
I was born on the last hour of Saturday 22nd of November 1986. For those who are into astrology, you may be interested to know I am a cusp child, born on the last hour of Scorpio and the first hour of Sagittarius. Neurologically, my birth symbols represent a sign of leadership ¹. It echoes with my Chinese star sign of being a Tiger ².
My imagined re-enacting of my birthday would look a little something like this.
I catch myself staring at the white wall. It’s only 9:30 pm. I am already overtired. It’s the last leg of the night shift and it’s been a big day. We have been running around, up and down the lengths of the hospital’s corridors countless times.
I’m worried for my patient. I remember how calm she was when she walked in almost twenty-four hours ago. Mind you, she was only calm because of the drugs we gave her. She was so happy to be having a girl. Her entire face lit up when she talked about it! Her energy was contagious. It was only when the contractions were getting worse that we needed to sedate her.
Coral Kelly’s story is a rare case. Her blood type is O Negative. You do not see it pass through our doors that often. Only 9% of the entire Australian population have it. It’s one of those rare blood types critical to our needs. It’s the type that is universally compatible with all other blood types. We often use it to give to patients in emergency situations when their blood type is unknown. The unfortunate reality for this blood type is that it brings complications. For example, those with O Negative blood can generally only receive O Negative blood. Sometimes emergency services and hospitals run low in their supplies.
I do not know how it happened. Coral’s body has been rejecting her daughter as it seems to me her child has a different blood type to her mother. The doctor reassures me everything is okay. The poor thing apparently went through the same pains when giving birth to her son, who is now three years old. This time we are not taking any risks. She has gone in for a C-section almost six weeks before the due date.
The telephone at reception rings. It is now 1:00 am. The doctor has called in to notify us Mrs. Kelly is okay, and we need to prepare the room as the patient is on her way back. Tiny Alison Kelly was born at 11:45 pm. We have sent her to the incubator room with the other premature babies. Both mother and daughter will now need to rest.
From this very instant, my mother
