    ACKNOWLEDGMENT

I would like to thank my family and friends who helped me during this time of loss.  I also want to thank my Lord above for providing all those people in my life.  Life can be hard at times and the Lord is the only one who is there at all times, helping and loving.  I could not have survived this ordeal if my Lord had not been there for me. All honor and glory go to Him.

    CHAPTER 1

It had been a good day. My husband and I went to church that morning. Our son, CJ, had spent the night with his girlfriend because they were moving her sister to a new place. The air was heavy in the August heat and when CJ arrived home in the late evening, it was still hot. Jake, his dog, was so happy to see his boy! They had a special relationship. He followed CJ’s every step when he was at home. His mixed breed of Sharpei and Lab made him an alpha dog and he was not going to let anything happen to his boy – not in his territory.

Jake was the protector of our family and he took his job very seriously. My job working at our church’s daycare as the cook had come to an end on that Friday before and the three of us, Charles, my husband, CJ, our son, and myself had been planning to start a business once my job was over. The guys had been very busy with auctions. Charles was a wheeler-dealer and could make a profit off of anything! He was teaching our son, a severely ADHD child, to be able to run his own business. CJ was a hands-on type of person. He liked working outside best and the type of business the auction was, suited him well. CJ was a strapping, handsome young man of 18 years old with a fabulous sense of humor which he inherited from both me and his Dad, but the biggest part came from his Dad.

Charles had an accident at his job; he had been a truck driver all his life. Now he was disabled. He was the brains of the outfit and CJ was the strong arms and backbone. I did the paperwork. We all were extremely excited to begin this new chapter in our lives. We were the Three Musketeers! CJ always said that he was never moving out - I was born here and I am going to die here.’’ Of course, he wasn’t really born at home. Like almost all children in Polk County Georgia, CJ was born at Floyd County Hospital in Rome, a medium-sized city just North of Cedartown. Four days later, he was brought home to our house and 2 acres of land. He was named after his father, Charles Franklin Wells, and so everyone thought that CJ" stood for Charles Junior. Actually, I gave him that nickname before he was born because he was half Charles and half Jill.

CJ took a shower to get the days dirt and sweat off of him. He got dressed and came into the study where I was at, using the computer, and sat down. I looked over at him and knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God had blessed me so. I could see in his eyes and face the resemblance of my family line. His facial profile held my father’s likeness. So many of our family – aunts, uncles, and cousins – held that likeness and it made me proud that my son shared in this family trait. I had always wanted a son and for CJ to take after me made having a son even better.

CJ asked me if he could go and spend the night with his girlfriend again. I had wondered if I should let him go the first time, but he was helping someone in need. I pondered and told him no. I wanted him to have a good foundation in Christ and felt that
