About this ebook

Baby boomers know it takes determination to achieve success, but many people today believe they're entitled to whatever they want without working for it.

This is an especially big problem for most millennials, whose refusal to work hard is slowly eating away at the fabric of our nation.

Special thanks to my family, Pastors Jack Hibbs and George Sasso, Hector La Marque, Steve Edwards and the team at Oakstone Wealth Management, Jerry Roisentul, Joe Davidson, my valued clients, my encouraging friends, and the many great authors whose works I have read throughout the years. You have all brought value to my life.

    Foreword

I have known Joe Colosimo for over fifteen years. We spent about ten of those years working for the same financial services company. When he told me he was writing a book on success and leadership, my initial thought was, What are you going to write about that hasn’t already been shared so many times before? But I know Joe is honest, truthful, and bold, and he will always tell it like it is—I knew this book would be different than others.

Five Essential Success Strategies for You . . . and the Millennials is one of those rare books that takes things we may have heard before and presents them in an easy-to-understand format. It is helpful and easy to read, yet profound in its depth and clarity. Each step gives you practical ideas as well as resources you can look into to further your growth in that specific area.

If you decided to pick up this book, you already understand the importance of self- improvement. No matter what business you are in, I truly believe that our paycheck grows in direct proportion to how we grow. The principles in this book, when applied to your life and business, will help you achieve that.

Joe’s direct but humorous approach in explaining each point is so refreshing in an era where many write a lot of fluff but not a lot of substance. Joe has a deep desire to help people, and that shows in this book. I cannot recommend this book enough, whether you are brand new to leadership or you’re a seasoned veteran. This will be a book you’ll come back to again and again.

    Happy reading!

Jerry Roisentul, Success Coach and International Speaker

    Introduction

    Who Is This Guy?

I already know what you’re thinking, another s uccess book, really? And who is this guy anyway? I’m nobody special. My last name isn’t Trump, Gates, Jobs, or Zuckerberg. In fact, the only really famous—or should I say infamous—name associated with mine belongs to a 1920s mobster. Forbes and Fortune have yet to call me for an interview. So then, why do I believe that I am qualified to write a book on success? I guess that depends on your definition of success. I do have some credibility. I managed to receive two bachelor degrees in psychology and English; a master’s degree in education; a teaching and administrative credential; and Series 6, 63, 65, 26, life and health, annuities, and long-term care licenses; and I’m an Accredited Investment Fiducia ry (AIF).

Since I know thousands of books have already been written on this subject, I decided to keep mine very short and simple. In fact, you’ll see I have narrowed it down to five steps: leadership, people skills, mental toughness, finances, and foundation. Again, there are thousands of books on these topics already in print, and I have read many of them and personally met many of their authors. You’ll notice I do not quote from them. The reason for that is because I want you to read them for yourself, and it is not my intention to turn this into a research book. I used to be a teacher and school administrator, and I was once asked by someone what I would teach if I could go back into teaching. I told that person I would teach a year-long course focused on those five subjects; they are not being taught, and that lack is having a devastating effect on our society. Today, we have a generation of young children and childlike adults coming up who have never been taught these topics—and many of the new generation really could care less about them. If that doesn’t concern you, it should. This group of people, known as the Millennials, is bigger than the Baby Boomers. They have been told, brainwashed, and indoctrinated to believe they are owed everything and they don’t have to work to get it. They think they are the most important people, and technology is their best friend. Am I referring to all of them? No. Thankfully there are a few bright spots. Before I get started,
