    About the Author

    Introduction

As one of the most common childhood diseases, asthma diagnoses throughout the world have dramatically increased over the last twenty-five years. In the United States, some 14 percent of children suffer from the disease. Asthma is the leading cause of school absenteeism. In 2008, students missed 10.5 million days of school.

Asthma can strike suddenly and severely and then disappear for weeks at a time. The most ordinary of events can trigger an attack that can, in rare cases, be fatal if untreated. With good reason, many people with asthma are terrified of wind, trees, perfume, or even their own laughter.

This does not have to be so. Although asthma is not curable, is one of the most treatable conditions in the world. And attacks can usually be prevented. The purpose of this book is to provide information that will promote prevention and proper treatment.

    Famous People with Asthma

Sometimes, people wish their lives were different. If you have asthma, you might have said to yourself many times, If only I didn’t have asthma, my life would be so wonderful. And perhaps it would be better.

Through determination, they refused to quit. As a result, they succeeded in achieving their dreams and leaving their mark on the world.

There are many famous people who have suffered from asthma. Politicians, dancers, singers, athletes, and even presidents of the United States have had the disease.

    Theodore Roosevelt

    Theodore Roosevelt

Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) was president of the United States from 1901-1909. After President William McKinley was assassinated in September 1901, Roosevelt assumed office and was elected to
