Understanding God's Great Plan - Peter Wyns

    Introduction

Understanding God’s Great Plan is an overview of what God planned before He made the world. Although many lengthy books could be written on the subject, this book was intentionally kept brief so it would be an easy read for everyone. At present, all of us are in the middle of God’s great plan. Once understood, His plan will transform our attitudes and behavior and lead us to a broader, kingdom-of-God, perspective.

I understand that there are many different perspectives on eschatology and good Bible teachers may not agree with all that I have written in this book. Each Bible teacher is responsible to teach the revelation that they have. This is what I believe God has revealed in the Bible. I trust you will find it helpful.

From a great family of Bible teachers, and more than fifty years of ministry, I give what insight I have gained on this topic. My source is the Bible, and even though I think God’s great plan is clearly revealed in scripture, I believe it has been overlooked by many.

Other books have been written on God’s ultimate intention and all the ones I have read have been instructive. From what I have seen, however, many essential dynamics are missing in those books.

Understanding God’s Great Plan presents aspects of Messianic, Jewish, and Christian perspectives of purpose and faith, and combines them in one teaching.

This book is a valuable tool for any Bible student because it answers the major questions of life and faith as revealed in scripture. Here are some of those questions.

Why did God create the universe?

Why did God create the world?

Why did God make the nations?

    Why is Jerusalem important?

    Why are the Jews important?

Why did God give us the Law of Moses?

Why did God give us the ark of the covenant?

Why did He give us Jesus?

    Why must Jesus have preeminence?

Why did God give us the Holy Spirit?

Why did God make the human race?

    Why did God invent marriage?

    Why do people sin?

    Why is there a devil?

Why did Jesus come to die?

Why are people called to the ministry?

Why does God have a church?

    Why is church government important?

    Why did God create discipleship?

What is the family of God?

Where will the government center of the universe be in the future?

What is God’s ultimate intention for humanity?

Is there life on other planets?

What will we do in eternity?

These and other Bible questions are answered in brief in this book. You may be surprised at some of the answers.

The Lord told Daniel that in the last days, new revelation will be released that previously had been hidden from view. In the end, the wise will see and understand more of God’s master plan, but the wicked will not understand.

Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the endHow long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?Go your way Daniel, because the words are rolled up and sealed until the time of the end. Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand. Dan. 12:4,6,9,10

We are now in that time period of new revelation that Daniel spoke of; therefore, we can expect fresh insight. When new truth comes, let it be tested and let it line up with scripture. In light of these verses in Daniel, we should prepare ourselves for new revelation and a shift in our traditional thinking.

    Part One

    Thrones

    Chapter One

    God and His Son

    The Beginning

Call it the big bang, creation, or just the beginning, but the universe started at a singular point and God was there. His Son, Jesus, is called The Word, and all things were made through Him.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. Jn. 1:1-3

Unequivocally, God’s eternal plan focuses on His Son, The Word. Everything was made by Him and for Him (see Rev. 4:1 KJV).

For many Bible students, this first chapter may seem obvious; nevertheless, Jesus is the focus of this chapter. Starting with Jesus as the central theme cannot be circumnavigated; Jesus is God’s eternal plan.

The Christian faith has taught us about Jesus, but many other details of God’s plan have not been taught. I trust that this book will bring fresh revelation to help increase your understanding. My aim is to give you a larger overview, but the most essential theme of God’s plan will always be Jesus the Messiah, Yeshua Hamashiach. That is how you say Jesus Christ in Hebrew. (Jesus is actually the Greek word for Joshua. The J is pronounced Y in Hebrew, which gives us Yeshua).

    Kids say Amazing Things

I have discovered that my children and grandchildren are brilliant. Starting at a young age they loved to grapple with the eternal questions of life. When my daughter Rachel, who is now in her 40s, was just five, she said, Dad, I don’t get it. How can God exist before the beginning? I just don’t get it.

I told her, I don’t know Rachel. All I know is that Jesus was there when everything began and He made it all.

That is what the Bible teaches, so I believe it. From beginning to end, God’s master plan is about Jesus.

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church, he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. Col. 1:15-18

The words are finite; Jesus is God, He created all things, He has all power, He was before all things, and everything continues to hold together because of Him.

    Even More Remarkable

Personally, for me, there is something even more remarkable than God’s greatness. It is the fact that God chose to bring us into this equation. From the beginning, He chose to make people part of His family. He calls us His body, the Church, the called out ones.

This is how He did it. Jesus left the infinite realm of heaven and came to us in a finite world. He became a flesh-and-blood man in order to bring us into His divine family. To do this, He had to make us holy, as He is holy, so Jesus died to pay for our unholiness. Then, because our sin was removed, He was able to adopt us into His family. He gave us the power to become His sons and daughters. He justifies, sanctifies and glorifies us. That means, as His kids, we will inherit all things along with Jesus.

He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things. Rom. 8:32

His plan led Christ to His death but also to His resurrection. He was the first to be raised from the dead (to a non-dying life) and His plan opened the door for us to follow in the resurrection. Jesus is the beginning and the end and He will bring us through a resurrection and establish us as permanent family members for all eternity.

    Apostolic Resolve

The early apostles made Jesus’ death and resurrection the main focus of their teaching. Paul said, I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 1 Cor. 2:2

Peter said, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1 Pet. 1:3

Peter also said, Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12

God’s eternal plan is magnificent. If, however, we could not be part of it, it would be the ultimate letdown. The apostles realized that Jesus, God’s Son, was and is the way for us to become God’s family.

Paul said, "For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him [In Christ], and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross." Col. 1:19-20

Jesus paid for man’s sin and reconciled the world to Himself. He is the ruler of everything and He is the only one who can hold it all together. The human race is sinful and messy and would be unfixable without His rule.

    Hell in a House

As a pastor, I have visited families where domestic violence was erupting. Husbands and wives were at each other’s throats, teens were in rebellion, and life was spiraling out of control. Family dysfunction causes pain. It brings anger, bitterness, alienation, divorce, poverty, sickness and even
