I want to dedicate this book to

my parents and my wife Jaya Basu.

    Acknowledgment

I am deeply grateful to my parents for shaping me up as the person I am, for teaching me to be self reliant, honest, transparent and imbibing in me values that will stay with me till the last moment of my life. They say atmosphere at home sculpts a child and I cant agree more, the atmosphere in my home was such that the book worm in me came out of its chrysalis at a quite young age, books were and still are my best friends.

Successful Men always say there is a woman behind them, I do not think I am successful yet, but there is definitely a Man behind my small achievment and that is my Husband. He is my companion, my partner in crime, my biggest critic and he plays the amazing role of an ego booster whenever I am down....Soul Mate is not a myth!!!!!

My little daughter, all of 10 years, the sunshine of my life is a blessing and made me a better human being by teaching me the true meaning of the words Love, Compassion, Patience and Perseverance.

And lastly My deepest grattitude, love and hugs for my late Grandmother, her engaging story telling capacity and her immense influence in nh life turned me to an avid reader....yes she handed me my first novel Parineeta by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, when I was a mere teenager. I know she is blessing me right up from there and I hope she is damn proud of my little achievment.

A huge vote of thanks to Aditi Samanta for being the Fairy God Mother in my life and Anjum Baba for touching my life with her magic wand.

    Preface

Manish, the protagonist of this novel, is working in a coveted, high-level position in a multi-national company. His business savvy and amicable nature makes him beloved amongst his office colleagues. He also has a blissful conjugal life with his better half, Munmun. However, his nemesis, the company’s CEO, Brenden, is plotting Manish’s professional and personal downfall. His unwitting accomplice is Manish’s close colleague, the alluring Arundhuti, who has always had a secret desire for Manish.

There’s a proverb that says ‘marriage takes place in heaven’, and another that states ‘what goes around comes around’. And so it is in this novel. Flip through the pages to find out how Manish is reunited with Munmun, and he becomes the hero of the company. Love, Lust and the Corporate Game is a wild romp through the cut-throat world of socio-economic manifestation, sexual intention, nepotism, envious environment, and finally the unpredictable landscape of the human heart.

    What others say. . .

The title pretty much sums up the promise of what the reader can expect in Love, Lust, and the Corporate Game, Buddhadeb Basu’s and Soumi Bhattacharya’s lively and fast-paced exploration of the goings-on in the Kolkata officeof a multinational corporation, Atlanta Electricals, and the effects on a young couple, Manish and Munmun Bose.

The Boses are deeply in love, and this is conveyed in the exquisite tenderness and passion of their relationship as we get to know each of them intimately. The corporate world operates on entirely different emotions, however—greed, competition, ambition, and jealously—to name a few. Manish, as a hot-shot marketing whiz-kid, finds himself in conflict with his boss, the company’s CEO, Mr. Brenden, who has disdain for his Indian vice president. The two display outright dislike for one another, and the tension caused by this friction is palpable to all who work at Atlanta Electricals.

Munmun wants her husband to be successful in his business life, so she suggests inviting Mr. Brenden for dinner and explains that perhaps he and his boss can become more friendly if they meet casually outside the office. Manish misunderstands her motives and accuses her of being attracted to Brenden. His jealousy gets completely out of control, and this unwanted suspicion forces Munmun to leave their home and move in with her parents.

Meanwhile, Atlanta’s female Marketing Manager, Arundhuti, sees this situation as her chance to seduce Manish, which she easily accomplishes as a result of Manish’s desire to punish Munmun. Outside of their torrid affair, Manish and Arundhuti work together to secure a huge project for Atlanta—essentially saving the company—which further infuriates Brenden. The retributions escalate as Brenden tries to ruin Manish, and the reader is propelled along to the dramatic conclusion.

Love, Lust, and the Corporate Gamefeels like an insider’s look at the modern world of big business. We’re right there with Manish in the tense meetings, the behind-the-scenes back-stabbings, the office intrigues, and the disastrous effects that his business life wreak on his emotions, his wife’s mental health, and their love. This book is a great read, and highly recommended.

Just finished reading of the manuscript of LOVE LUST AND CORPORATE GAME.

It’s an outstanding novel which touches our heart around beautiful love and complicated corporate challenges. I am sure this novel will help people in corporate world to balance their personal & professional life. I was moved by this heartfelt and wonderfully honest account of the daily challenger of corporate world to the personal passion of love and influence of lust illustrated in this novel.

The authors beautifully shared with us the game of corporate world and the grace of love.

    Review by Sameer Shukla------

As the title of the book goes pretty sums up the complexities involved in Love, Lust and the Corporate Game, the book written by Buddhadeb Basu and Soumi Bhattacharya. All the characters in the novel have been beautifully selected to describe about intricacies involved in Corporate Games and how one has to compromise in order to achieve certain goals and at the same time remain intact in power and position. This book by Buddhadeb Basu and Soumi Bhattacharya is a wonderful piece of narrating life in MNCs and how it affects life of young couple who put prime-time of their life in all sorts of Corporate Games, of which Love, Lust are probably part and parcel of some of the emotions on which one has to strike a balance and there is a very thin line which separates the two. Love, Lust, and the Corporate Game feels like an insider’s look at the modern world of big business. The corporate companies operate on altogether different emotions and this book is perfect example of an insiders look on ups and down of life in corporate offices. This book is a great read, and highly recommended and I wish all the best to writer duo.

    Chapter 1

    Love Blooms And Fades

The gleam of sunlight bathed the eastern fringes of the City of Joy with a promise of a bright and cheerful day. The city shed the debris of the past night and was ready to embrace another day of new hopes, new promises, new achievements, and new glory. Yes, some people knew life would still be the same for them—same old drudgery, same old nine-to-five job of boredom and struggle to survive in this arena of the mighty gladiators. Some tilted broken pieces of aspirations and yearnings that reignited each day at this hour when the sun made its appearance. This time of the day had a special Midas effect that touched every soul’s life, and they started living again.

The lives of a certain strata of the elite society were also waking up in Amravati Towers, where super-successful people from every walk of life resided. Their mornings were always different. In that high-rise, each apartment held a different story. In one apartment, a couple suffered hangovers from the past night’s wild party. In another apartment, the man of the house was busy gardening on his terrace while draped in an expensive silk pajamas. In yet another apartment, children rallied in front of the elevator to go to school while their mothers were finally able to sit in their luxuriant living rooms sipping refreshing mint tea. That’s the new flavor our city dwellers were adapting to in a place where a cup of black tea with oodles of milk and heaps of sugar was once the norm.

In flat No, 10-BB-3, the alarm clock screeched.

Oh, my God! It is past 6.30.

Munmun Bose—svelte and fair skinned with waist-length, brown hair cascading down like a waterfall; dimpled smile; and a significant other named Manish Bose. Munmun, the lady of the house, arose quickly and covered herself with the dressing gown lying beside her bed. The recollection of last night’s passion made her smile coyly, and the deep love she felt for her husband was written all over her face. Mun looked affectionately at her still-sleeping husband, softly brushed her fingers through his hair, and gently touched his eyelids.

Manish Bose opened his eyes, caught his wife in the moment, and drew her down to him in a tight hug. Why did you not awaken me? Manish asked, closing his eyes again and inhaling the fragrance of love emanating from Mun. He kissed the top of her head. Last night had been equally special to him, and he was relishing the memories that washed over him.

You were sleeping so peacefully, Manish. I didn’t have the heart to wake you. Munmun snuggled close to her husband.

Wrong, Mrs. Bose. You were secretly watching me. C’mon now, I know you were. I caught you in the act, Manish said in a mock serious tone and tightened his grip on his wife. He waited for the inevitable blush to infuse her beautiful skin, which it soon did.

Manish had spent much time abroad and had met many women who were chic and modern as well as forward, without a hint of shyness. After marrying Munmun, Manish knew demure shyness had its own beauty, which he, as the beholder, enjoyed every day of his marital life.

Manish, get up now. You’ll be late for the office and will rush off without having any breakfast. I won’t have it today.

With this, a bell rang, and Munmun sprang to her feet. Must be the maid. Manish, please hurry up. I’m going to the kitchen. Your breakfast is on the way.

Ah, Mun, you merciless woman, sending me away from you when all I want is to have my wife beside me all day!

Soon after they met, Manish had simplified his wife’s name from Munmun Bose to ‘Mun.’

Mr. Husband, we shall continue with the romance in the evening. Now go! Mun rushed out of the bedroom to open the front door, tightening the belt of her nightgown as she did so.

Manish, after languishing in his bed for few more seconds, got up and walked toward the bathroom.

Once dressed, Manish came into the kitchen. Hell, I’m bloody late for a meeting, Mun. You should have called me earlier. He stood by the sink, taking big sips from a cup of piping hot tea.

Always passing the buck to others. That’s the inherent quality of the male fraternity, Mun complained.

How do you know? You’ve been married only five years, yet seems you’re well versed with the male psyche.

Sit for breakfast, and no more nonsense, please.

Oh! What a sumptuous breakfast. My God. Here are all my favorites. Eggs, cornflakes with milk, mango juice, and sprouted moog. I feel I’m dining at a five-star hotel. Are you trying to increase my calories and make me a flabby joker? Don’t you know, darling—as a handsome senior executive and smart fellow—I have to be in shape to match my beautiful wife? said Manish, trying to tease her.

Manish, please stop joking and eat properly. I have enough to do without worrying about your health.

With breakfast done, Manish rushed to his bedroom to collect some papers, his computer, and his suit, and Mun followed him. She sprayed Hugo Boss on her husband, which was their customary ritual. While Mun was applying the cologne to her husband, Manish kissed her on the forehead and encircled her in his dominating embrace. She struggled to release herself from his clutches, but Manish had the strong body of an athlete thanks to all the time he spent at the gym.

Oh! What are you doing? Aren’t you getting late? she said.

I’m helpless against your allure. No husband in the world could hold back with a wife this attractive. I don’t have any choice.

You’re the most wicked husband I’ve ever seen. Most of my friends’ husbands are -behaved and certainly less possessive of their wives than you, my dear. Mun tried to hide her half smile.

"Well, darling, I am possessive—damn possessive when it comes to you. Sorry, this is the raw deal you got in marrying me." Manish bent down to kiss his wife on the lips.
