FOREWORD
Since the 1980s the phenomenon of serial murder has become one of the most talked about crimes in America. Every year, new cases of serial murder emerge, engaging law enforcement resources, terrifying communities and providing fodder for Hollywood. Behind the scenes of these often, grisly murders, is a host of criminologists, forensic psychologists and homicide investigators conducting research, interviewing suspects, and providing clarity as to the etiology and prevention of such crimes. Criminal profiles have been developed to assist law enforcement in understanding these offenders and their victims. Several recognized scientific psycho-social theories have been developed to explain serial murder. However, while each theory has utility, not one of them is able to identify specific causation.
Indeed, there are many psycho-social factors correlated with violent crime, and, in truth, there are many different types of serial killers. Science alone cannot identify a root cause for the existence of serial killers and must settle for the myriad of correlations for such horrific acts: erosion of the family, child abuse, poverty, crime, genetic influences, trauma, and many more. These are all important variables but The Satan Model, is predicated on one critical variable: choice. Without Satan, there is no evil. Choose God over Satan and evil can be defeated. Each of us has the free will to make our choices for good or evil.
Ms. Lee, in framing The Satan Model, uniquely approaches an explanation for serial murder from a Christian perspective. Her intent is to bridge the gap between science and religion. Ms. Lee examines the paradigm of good v. evil as a matter of choice. Those who embrace evil follow Satan and those who choose good, follow Jesus Christ. All sin is evil according to the Bible, but Jesus died on the Cross to redeem all those who repent and follow Him. Some persons, like serial killers, have embraced evil to the point of no redemption. They have become devils unto themselves and are completely under the control of Satan.
Indeed, Satan no longer needs to tempt them because they belong to him.
Ms. Lee explores the paradigm of good and evil through research and writings of serial killers. She recognizes that evil can charade as good and identifies this as a tool of Satan. She challenges each of us to explore our own hearts and minds to confront evil wherever and whenever it rears its ugly head. The Satan Model provides the antidote for serial murder and the eradication of sin. Follow the teachings of our Lord and embrace Light.

Chapter ONE
Defining Monsters
"The evil that men do live after them; the good is oft interred with their bones.
- William Shakespeare
We are living in a time that is darker and more evil than ever before. There is rarely a day that we don’t hear or read in the news declarations of mayhem across the nation, in our very own cities, towns, neighborhoods, and even in our own homes. We find ourselves questioning why so much turmoil exists. Although tragedy has been around since the beginning of time, it is alarming to see the escalated amount of natural disasters hitting every corner of the world. The world we live in today is increasingly becoming more wicked, provoking violent riots, aggression towards others for the smallest offenses, explicit enslavement of women and children for sex, easily accessible drugs sold online, burglaries, rape, abuse, murder, and division among all walks of life just to name a few. If we turn on the TV, we are inundated with entertainment on the paranormal, satanic sects, and shows that openly glorify Lucifer. Movie theaters have also seen a boom in the interests of gore ridden horror films, the paranormal and demonic type, movies, which are more popular than ever.
The explosion of this content lends to the belief and existence of a dark side and to probe why such a fascination of this realm can no longer be ignored. Many serial killers have emerged because they were fascinated by the way previous serial killers were portrayed in newspapers, on television, in movies, and on the internet. The media sensationalizes the serial killer time and time again proliferating their infamy. Dennis Rader, BTK
, grew up reading detective magazines laced with bondage paraphernalia and watched movies that were sexual arousing for him, like, In Cold Blood.
ARE PEOPLE BORN EVIL?
Dennis Rader confessed while he was being interrogated that he was motivated to become a serial killer in large part by the popularity and fame others before him had achieved. Among the many defects that contributed to his psychopathy, Dennis Rader wanted the same spotlight. The word, copycat
comes to mind, with many serial killers trying their best to outdo the others, make a name for themselves, and leave behind a criminal legacy. A horrific goal we must change and prevent.
So, let’s dive right in and get to the bottom of this long-standing question that has stumped us for centuries. It is the elephant in the room that has been ignored far too long and even cast aside as a legitimate explanation into the origin of serial crime. It is time to acknowledge that science per say cannot prove everything, and some things simply do not require science for them to be valid or true. I will boldly say it now: there is an answer to the question we have been asking for centuries, and there is an explanation behind all the evil in the world today, and finally there is a rationale as to why human beings can become so vicious to the point of rape and murder.
Similarly, there is also an explanation as to why some men and woman become serial killers and others do not.
We have made this far too perplexing, ignoring what is right in front of us. Do we really need a sophisticated, complex, science-based theory to understand all criminal behavior? Do we really need a rocket scientist to figure this out for us? All kidding aside, we thank those who have contributed so much to help explain what to many is unexplainable.
So many have been hurt by the actions of evil incarnate and so many have dedicated their lives to capturing and understanding the serial killer.
We owe this honor to special agents like Roy Hazelwood, Robert Ressler and John Douglas who have studied serial killers since the inception of the Behavioral Science Unit in Quantico, Virginia. It is self-evident to say the answer is not privy to only the intellect of professionals who work in law enforcement, criminology, psychology, genetics, biology, or academia.
We do turn to these professionals for answers, however, because they have spent years studying, investigating, and researching serial crime, they have interviewed and seen for themselves the behavior of the most vile.
Furthermore, all the logged hours of interviewing the criminal does confer first-hand knowledge and certainly lends credibility to their findings. However, we undermine our common sense, understanding, and intelligence when we dismiss the reality of other truths blindly.
The professional world does a disservice when they do not validate the rantings of the perpetrator who knows his crimes in better detail than any expert ever could. To add to this perplexing problem is the over-sensationalizing of the media. As mentioned earlier, sensational titles and catch-phrases for high ratings trumps truth and accurate reporting. It is a frustrating, systemic problem that has not benefited law enforcement, researchers, the public or the criminal in understanding their inner motives completely.
CASE STUDY: DAVID BERKOWITZ
You may ask, how does this affect information and how does it keep us from understanding the serial killer? Let me provide an example: David Berkowitz, also known as the Son of Sam and the .44 Caliber Killer, is an American serial killer who was arrested in 1977 for terrorizing small communities in NYC, for over two years, by killing people in parked cars. The news media went on a frenzy for weeks, printing in the newspaper that the killer had been commanded by a dog, called Sam
, to murder and kill. The media believed that these murders were the actions of a crazed, insane, schizophrenic person who was hallucinating. David Berkowitz was assessed by professionals in the field of psychiatry to be mentally incompetent and sent to an institute for the mentally insane.
The media failed to report the important truths of David Berkowitz actions and how it led him down a spiral of mayhem and murder. It wasn‘t until the incarcerated David Berkowitz was in a better state of mind, controlled by a medication and a newfound belief in Christ, that he was able to rationally explain to the world the motives behind his evil
