Meomi Kot

As a child, Meomi lived in a dream of being a painter, travelling through the natural landscape with her sketch pad and paints. In the last year of her high school, she decided to give up academic study to pursue an artistic career. However, an unexpected opportunity brought her to university to study landscape architecture. Since then, her curiosity of the world brought Meomi to work and live on three continents, in four countries and nine cities, built many public and private open spaces in Australia, the Middle East, North America and Asia. These travelling experiences taught Meomi to see the world with an open mind and become more sensitive to human nature. Human nature being the consistent force underpinning commonality between supposedly diverse regional cultures, ultimately having similar desires, values and beliefs. In primary school, Meomi became interested in making 'little books'. She made miniature dictionary of her own invented language to teach her classmates. In adulthood, she made zines to entertain her colleagues and send to friends in replacement of ordinary greeting cards, which often ended up in bins. These small hobbies led Meomi to produce her first picture book, The Running Baguette, a story about a baguette's journey of self-discovery. A picture from the book was selected for display at the children's picture book exhibition at Mosesian Centre for Arts in Boston. Now, Meomi is living in Canberra, Australia. She loves the mountain views covered by eucalyptus forest and occupied by many types of bright and colourful birds.
