Getting Rid of Hurt and Overcoming the Lingering Concealed Severe Pain - Doris Francois

    Introduction

Allow me to begin with this very familiar life situation. We all are familiar with the birth of a new born child, or new life coming into existence. Let’s explore the circumstances of this new birth. When a woman becomes pregnant, she experiences a process of joyful times as well as painful ones. There is a waiting period of nine months, or in some other incidences seven months for this process to come to its fruition. Whatever the length of time it takes for the fetus to develop to the stage of being born, the woman must experience the joy and the pain it entails.

Through the period of pregnancy, the woman carries the child in her belly. That child is comfortable in this environment for a duration of time, because the child is receiving the care he or she needs for growth. However, as the child develops, the space becomes ineffective, clustered and uncomfortable for further growth. At this time, the child gets ready to be born, and the woman begins to experience the labor pains in preparation for the child’s birth. She is then forced to push and assist the child in an effort for the entrance into this world. The pain she experiences can be very intense at times, but the thought of seeing a new life come into existence makes it all worth the pain. After that beautiful child is here, the woman tends to forget the terrible pains that she had experienced. This is evident, because she sometimes will repeat the same situation again and again just to get that opportunity to see or be a part of bringing a new life into the world. How amazing, it makes a woman feels as she sees the product of those nine or seven months painful as it had been.

As human beings, and in resemblance to the woman’s in child birth we will experience joy and pain in living the Christian life. Comparable throughout our life time just as a woman experiences a time of intense pain in the pregnancy of the child bearing process, we too will have some intense times. Note here, this hurt may come in many ways. It may inject a feeling of rejection or disappointment in a love affair, the emptiness over the death of a love one, loss of a job, overlooked for a promotion, disappointment in a child or children, and even grandchildren. Whatever the cause, know God is the Creator of all things. Simply put, all things are in His hands. He sees and knows all things before it takes place. He is the Potter and we are the clay. He has molded us into His image, therefore He knows what we can bear and He has given us the power to endure our pain. His Word states that He is our strength in the time of our weakness. He opens the door and closes the door to all things. He is God and can do whatever He wants in His own time, because He knows what we need and when we need that particular thing or things. His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. God wants the good for His children not the bad. He will supply the good if we trust Him, obey Him, follow His commandments, and live as He ask us to live. The pains we feel could well be our deliverance, and the process we must undergo in order for new growth in Him; and further ministry to be unfolded in spreading the gospel.

As was mentioned at the beginning, during child birth a woman experience pain before the child comes into this world. When that child is ready to be born, nothing can stop the child from coming out of his or her mother’s womb. Likewise, if you are called to ministry, you will experience pain along the way. Rest assure, when God is ready to birth that call He placed in your life, nothing anyone does can stop it from happening. Once that fire begins to burn inside, no one can put it out. You will give birth in His time without any interference.

    Chapter One

    The Valley Experience Vs.

    The Mountiontop Experience

"Therefore let him who thinks he stands take

    heed lest he fall."

    1 Corinthians 10: 12 KJV

The valley experience is a place where much growth takes place in our lives. It is where one experiences many tests and trials. These tests and trials may come unexpected, as a result, leaving one with a sense of loneliness and despise. The valley is also a place where disappointments, discouragement, and rejection dwell. Another times, it may come as a result of our own greed. The good news, however, it is also the place where we can grow spiritually, and mentally if we focus our eyes on our Creator. For God our Creator is the Potter and we are the clay. He has made us, and molded us into His own image. He has us in His hands, and will not suffer us to bear more than we can. As human beings when we know what His Word tells us, we can find comfort in applying it to our situations with boldness that God has it. I refer you now to (II Corinthians 4:7-9 KJV) which reads… But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.

God has our backs, and will not let us fall if we place our trust, and faith in Him. He wants to deliver us from our trouble. We may feel we are burdened beyond measure, but God in His grace and mercies gives us the strength to overcome. We have the sentence of death in ourselves, but in God who raise the dead and is able to raise us up from any situation that comes against us. However, we need to recognize His unchanging love for us and His awesome power to fix all our situations. For nothing is too big or insufficient to Him. We sometimes, forget this fact when we are on the mountaintop. That is where we fall short in faith by not turning our troubles over to Him.

Unlike the valley experience, the mountaintop experience caters to an individual having the big I attitude. Maintaining: I have arrived, and I can do it myself. how foolish! The individual tends to forget where his help comes from. He becomes cocky and self-sufficient, thinking that God’s help is no longer needed. That is the biggest mistake anyone can make. For we are nothing without God. We breathe because of God. He gave us the breath, He helps us to move, and He can decide to cut it off at any time. Therefore, we ought to be aware of God’s presence in our lives, in our actions, and in all the decisions we are faced with. The book of Matthew reads…(Matthew 28: 18 NKJV) And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying: All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Jesus was given that authority to rule over all. As a result, we are to respect and recognize Him for the power He has in His hands. We cannot afford to think that we can over power Him. That type of arrogant attitude is what placed Satan in hell today. Likewise, it is not beneficial to us to emulate Satan attitude. Or does it serve us well to be caught exhibiting the wrong attitude, and excluding the Lord. He should be honored, and acknowledge for without Him we cannot survive from day-to-day, hour-to-hour or minute-to-minute.

As we find ourselves in the valley, remember that God knows our hearts, He is familiar with our pain. He has the cure for the broken-hearted. He is the fixer and can fit it like no other can. True, no one enjoys pain, but pain brings new life, new ways of thinking, opens closed doors, and exposes the grey areas of our lives. Our eyes are opened to see the right from the wrong, and brings us to the place of repentance. It helps us to correct the areas that we can. God in His mercies helps us in that way. Sometimes we are unable to see, especially if we are comfortable in a given place. God has to give us a test to open our spiritual eyes to help us realize we need to make a change.

(Proverbs 14:12 NKJV) reads…. There is a way that seems right to man, but the end is the way of death. This scripture clearly tells us that the things we do or say will seem right in one’s own eyes. He or she may not see the wrong that is being portrayed by their actions, but the outsiders will see it. Whatever, is perceived from the actions by another, the effects from our actions tells the story of our behavior and the results that it will have on another’s. Therefore, our bad actions can cause another damage as well as damage to self. That is why the scripture used the words: but the end is the way of death Sad, but real our bad choices do not only effect self, they also effect those around us. Our children and grandchildren, our community and society, our schools and church members are all impacted by our bad decisions. Therefore, when we are in the valley and experiencing our difficult times, we need to be humble, considerate, and stay prayerful. We should not be discouraged or throw in the towel. Life is not over. We have our Daddy Jesus who will not forsake us. We also have to be considerate to those people who God has assigned to us that are looking up to us to help them find their way to Christ. We must be good Godly examples.

Consequently, attending to our actions that we do not be that stumbling block or hindrance, but the example to help push those people into what God has for them. Hence, let us be an encouragers and not a discourager, builders and not the destroyers of God’s children. For we are all God’s children worthy of His grace and mercies. We must please God in all that we do. You may say: But I am down and out; I am hurting; I have been broken by so many people; I have nothing left to give; People in the church have hurt me; my children do not call me anymore; I have no more money; I am as low as I can be. No one cares; How can I help another. By God’s grace, I can say, I have experienced all these I am situations given above, and you know what? Self-pity does not ease the pain; it just intensifies the pain. And it keeps you in the self-indulging state of mind. Here is where you call on Jesus. Cry out His name: Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! I need you. He hears you, He sees your tears, He loves when you call on Him. And what’s more! He answers the cry of a broken and contrite heart. The Word reads, He will not despise the contrite and broken-hearted.

The Prodigal Son serves as a good example of how one has to get to brokenness to realize who God really is, and the power He has. The Prodigal Son came to his senses after suffering much embarrassment, disgrace, and dishonor, because of the bad choice he made to take his inheritance and squander it in extravagant living. The Prodigal Son at this point, had come to the realization that he had spent all he had, and his father had hired servants who were being fed better than he was. There he was in the pig field eating the hust with pigs. How low can we allow ourselves to go,
