Soothsaying Tarot and the Mantegna Revealed - Dino DeBenetti

    Introduction

The Three Rules of the Tarot

    ––––––––

Tarot reading has been in existence since the beginning of recorded time. Back then it meant a lot more then it seems to now. Tarot has been abused totally in the 21st century. It seems the Tarot has earned its shady reputation from those that would abuse it for profit and gain. Tarot is science, art, mathematics, and mysticism all rolled into one. Let’s face it; psychics may not need a medium such as the Tarot. Some psychics use imagery, concentration, and telepathy as their medium. Tarot is a medium. Tarot is like a cipher. It attempts to simplify the reading of future events. Tarot is a learning tool. Tarot should not be used for profit. Tarot is not meant for big business, though all one has to do is type Tarot into a search engine to see all the sites dedicated to charging the public and using the Tarot along with much other fortune telling methods. Few of these profit-orientated entities contribute anything new to the Tarot and continue to charge the public for money for profit.

Rule number one of the Tarot; never use the Tarot or other fortune telling methods for self gain or profit. If you need to eat, pay the rent, or put your children through college, those would be legitimate excuses to use the Tarot, as long as you use it with sincerity and most importantly, contribute something back to the medium. Good Tarot readers are the ones that see images in their head or see the portents in the cards but never foretell what they believe the seekers wants to hear. Good Tarot readers use their intuition, their gut, and their knowledge of the cards to produce a good reading. Is it Fun? Not always. As a Tarot reader, you have a great responsibility. Let’s face it; you can drastically alter a person’s destiny with one inaccurate reading. If you want to do it for fun, then practice on yourself and take notes. You will be surprised how accurate it can be when it is used objectively. Some writers of the Tarot suggest not to take readings too seriously and they are right. Anything in a Tarot reading is changeable, even the good things. It is important to get the big picture of any reading and try to come to a solid conclusion of what the spread is indicating.

Rule number two; never back pedal on a reading. If the Querent does not see the picture you are trying to get across, then what is needed is clarification, not back pedalling. The Querent will not take you seriously after that. If you make a mistake then correct it, apologize, and then resume with the reading. Emotional distress can make a reading tough. If the Querent is distraught or is apparently upset about what the reading is saying, it would be a good idea to stop and get them to calm down. Try to determine what is causing the upset. Never leave the Querent in that kind of state. Always leave them with a positive state of mind. Leave them with some power to continue their life with a positive direction. Are we psychologists? Yes, in a broad sense we are. You have to be prepared to play that role because the Querent would not be there if they did not have a problem with something or someone in their life. Remember, you are not a psychologist by profession so you are limited in that aspect whereby if you feel you are over your head, you probably are. Suggest to them to seek help in those venues. The best thing you can do is to listen to what they are saying. Being a good listener makes a great Tarot reader.

Rule number three; never, ever, ever, ever foretell death in a reading. That is just plain irresponsible. Remember, you are not God, a doctor, a Judge, a psychopath, a hit person, or anybody as far as death is concerned. As a responsible Tarot reader, you never predict death. That does not mean you will not see it in the reading and the only thing you can do is warn the Querent about whatever perils you may see. If you see accidents in the cards you would tell them not to do any un-necessary travelling for a while. If it is an issue about health then you should tell them to consider quitting smoking or go on a diet or exercise more regular. Just don’t blurt out that they are overweight or have cigarette breath. Use your common sense and leave them with a positive frame of mind. Stay away from this sort of prediction even if it is their relatives, friends, or neighbours. No matter how much finesse or charisma you think you have, predicting death just will not leave the Querent in a positive frame of mind.

Of course there are many other rules but those rules are learnt as you develop your Tarot abilities. The best reader is the one that can keep things simple but interesting. If the Querent cannot relate to what you are telling them or just plain cannot understand, then you are being too vague or perhaps too general. This is where your gut will take over. What is this person here for? What does that person want to know? No, it is not what they want to hear, rather what they want to know about a particular topic. If you are at a loss, then talk about the person. Everybody loves to hear things about him or herself, especially positive things. If you have studied the cards enough, you will know what to say. Then, the person will open up and let you know what they are seeking. But, this does not happen all the time. You as a reader should see what they are seeking in the cards. Sometimes, they will not know what they are seeking and are leaving it up to you to point them in the right direction. Did I say tough? Well, it is very tough and never easy. It is very challenging so if you do not like challenges then don’t read a person’s cards for money until you can overcome this fear. Reading for money means you are a professional. Professionals like challenges and are not intimidated by them. The best practice though in my opinion is not to ask for money when you read the Tarot. This, in the long run will produce bad karma for your soul. Most people, not all, but most will offer you something in the end and that in its self will tell you that you have done well.

    Protecting Your Cards

If you are new at this and you have bought or received a Tarot deck that is new or new to you, it is important you know how to protect them. They must be first wrapped in silk when you are not using them. It is also important to personalize the cards by sleeping on them one night under your pillow. The only time someone else should touch your cards is when they are shuffling them to be read. You should never borrow your cards out and let others touch them or read with them. You may give them away to someone and someone dear to you may give you a deck. But once they are yours, keep them that way. This will help keep spirit manipulation and bad vibrations away from your deck.

    What is dYnO taRoT?

dYnO taRoT is based on my own version of the Tarot as explained in this book. The apps available in the Microsoft Store, show different spreads and how to use them. Some versions have a significator selection to personalize the readings. It is simple to use and a great learning tool. You can use any Tarot deck with this book. Although the apps will shuffle the cards for you, using a real deck will enable you to learn the shuffling procedures. I have closely integrated the traditional shuffling procedures into the different spreads of these apps. Though you will not see the procedure when using the apps, it is in use to closely replicate the results as if you shuffled them by hand. There is much more information later in the book. What I will go through firstly is how to shuffle and read traditionally which will only give you a firmer foundation of the Tarot.

    Explanation of the Tarot Deck

The Tarot deck consists of 78 cards in total. There are 22 majors (trump) cards and 56 minor (suit) cards. The playing deck has 52 suit cards and 2 trump cards (Jokers) that are rarely used. The Tarot deck is similar to a playing deck as far as the suits and the Jokers go but that is where the similarity ends. There are four elements (suits) in both decks. There are four aces in both decks. There are court cards in both decks. The Tarot deck has an extra court member, which would be the Page. To break this down in correlation,

How to shuffle the Tarot deck

Traditionally, the Tarot is shuffled one common way. There are indeed other ways but this method is universal to most Tarot spreads.

Step 1: Clear the deck by putting all the cards in the deck in an upright position. IE: Not upside down. It is professional to have the deck cleared before the Querent arrives.

Step 2: Hand the whole deck face down to the Querent upright to him/herself, upside-down to you.

Step 3: Tell the Querent to think of a question and shuffle the cards as many times as they like keeping them upright to themselves. When they are done tell them to place the cards on the table face down as they were given.

Step 4: Tell the Querent to cut the deck in three equal piles with their left hand from left to right keeping them on the table face down.

    Step 5:
