Conclusion
Introduction
This beginner’s guide book will help you learn everything you need to know about Tarot cards - its history, principles, philosophy, and how you can use the deck for daily practical affirmation and long-term spiritual development.
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need psychic ability before you can read the Tarot. You can greatly benefit from the Tarot’s insights so long as you have an open mind and you are willing to trust the impressions you feel during a reading.
Benefits of Learning Tarot Card Reading
There is no hocus pocus involved, when you learn how to read tarot cards, you will be able to become attuned to your own self and therefore connect with your intuition.
Tarot reading will allow you to become much more aware of yourself and your surroundings. The increased perceptiveness can benefit you in multiple ways; it can help you improve your relationships with your loved ones, and it can help you pinpoint the areas of your lives that could use a bit more attention, if not improvement.
A tarot reading also has a surprising benefit; it can help you in making difficult decisions. Keep in mind that tarot cards cannot really predict your future or tell you in detail about what exactly you need to do. What they can do is help you find what you want.
Another little known benefit is that it can help you find peace. Some people tend to obsess over what could go wrong. A tarot reading can help you see the positive side of things and find calmness.
How This Book Will Help You
We will start with the fundamentals - the deck’s structure, its relation to astrology, Kabbala, and numerology. Then we will explore the different layouts used by Tarot readers today.
You may try conventional spreads, but take note that there’s no right or wrong way to read a card. Some people pick one card every day and that’s it, while some people spread as much as 20 cards in one reading.
To start with, you may want to read the keywords for the card interpretations at the start of Chapter 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
In the detailed interpretations, you will learn the card’s alternative names, astrological associations, and numbers that will provide you additional insight.
While there are different versions of the Tarot deck, and different readers have their different interpretations due to the development of this craft for centuries, this book aims to provide you a foundation from which to start.
The Tarot cards capture the mind and the soul of the human experience. Each card reflects your state of mind and stage of life. Over the centuries, people have used the Tarot for predicting the future, enhancing their knowledge of the mystical worlds, gain spiritual insight, and receive instruction from the divine.
The esoteric symbols that you will encounter in the Tarot cards are intended to stimulate our intuition and connect us with our inner divinity. Regular reading of the Tarot cards can provide you a lot of benefits such as:
● Improved self-awareness - The Tarot cards can provide you the time and space to concentrate on yourself.
● Increased creativity - Tarot reading can provide a different angle on your situation and creative ways to resolve conflict.
● Situational awareness that may manifest in intuitiveness - The Tarot cards can help you to have a glimpse of the immediate future and how they are influenced by the people around you.
● The ability to help others - Through the insights from the cards, you can improve your ability to empower others to discover their spiritual journey.
● Enhanced Spirituality - Tarot reading allows you to see the world and connect to it on a whole new level
Once you become adept in Tarot reading, hopefully you will remember something in this book that will spark your imagination and contribute to this rich mystical art.
Regardless of your purpose in learning the Tarot cards, I encourage you to share with me the journey of this esoteric wisdom and partake from the greater insights into yourself and the people you care for.
Chapter 1.Tarot 101: An Overview
The Tarot is an archetypal map of human consciousness that goes beyond our journey through life both in practical and spiritual.
Reading the Tarot cards is the practice of divination through a particular layout or spread of cards.
But contrary to common belief, Tarot reading is not all about fortune telling, and you don’t need to possess psychic powers before you can read the cards.
The Tarot cards are used to provide insight into the deepest trust of our higher consciousness. They provide an evolved awareness of what we already know deep within.
A Brief History of the Tarot Cards
Conventional playing cards were first noted in Europe in the 14th century. These cards were believed to have been originated in the Middle East where they had been part of the society as amusement for many centuries.
However, Tarot expert Tadfor Little claims that these were not Tarot cards, saying that there’s no conclusive proof that the modern day Tarot cards or anything resembling them have been created at that time.
The origin of the Tarot cards, or at least the precursor of what would be the modern Tarot deck can be traced back to the mid-15th century in a letter written by the Duke of Milan asking for a few decks of triumph
cards that will be used for a special occasion. In this letter, it was made apparent these cards were not at all like regular playing cards.
However, it was also established that these early cards were meant to be used for entertainment and not for divination. People used the decks to play a card game called triumph, which has some semblance to bridge. The game immediately became popular across Europe, and people started to call them as tarocchi or the Italian word for Tarot around the 16th century.
The deck was called the Visconti-Sforza cards because they were commissioned by Francesco Visconti - the Duke of Milan.
Even though the Catholic Church called the triumph cards as the devil’s picture book (probably because they were used for gambling) these cards have predominantly Christian imagery and themes.
The card sequence recounts a story about a
