Chapter 1

Caught Up

Nikki had just laid down for a nap after working a ten hour shift when out of nowhere she hear the sound of banging on her front door. Who the hell is this said Nikki as she quickly jumped out of bed to go check the scene. Before she could even open the door she was stopped by her brother Marco. They're coming for me! Who! The police tell them I'm not here. What! Marco what kind of shit have you brought to my house? Just tell them I'm not here said Marco as he ran to the bathroom to hide out. When Nikki opened the door she came face to face with Houston S.W.A.T. Can I help you? Yes ma'am we're looking for Marco Carter. He's not here. Where is he then; because I received a call this morning saying that he was here. I'm sorry but your source has misinformed you. Really said the detective not believing a word that was coming from Nikki's mouth. Yes I haven't seen him in weeks. Do you know that you're interfering with the investigation of a homicide? A strange look came across Nikki's face feeling like she could hardly breathe. I'm going to ask you one more time is Marco here in this house? Nikki looked at all the policemen standing in front of her and said no without hesitation. Okay guys let's go back to the office and follow up on new leads said detective Boonie as he turned around and walked off. Nikki closed the door and ran straight to the bathroom to confront Marco. What's going on and what type of shit you in now Marco? Nikki I swear I didn't kill anybody. Well why the fuck was S.W.A.T at my front door? That was S.W.A.T said Marco as he turned around to let the bathroom window up. What are you doing? Before Marco could answer a loud boom came from the living room. When Nikki looked around the corner she seen S.W.A.T running toward her. With only one leg out the window Marco was pulled back in and threw to the floor. Marco Carter you are under arrest for the murder of Dana Monroe said detective Bonnie. My brother is no murder this has to be some kind of mistake. Detective Bonnie wasn't finished as he turned to Nikki and place her under arrest for harboring a fugitive. What shouted Nikki! Ma'am I gave you a chance to give him up but you chose to get involved. That's bullshit yall S.W.A.T yall don't knock or ask questions shouted Marco as they carried him out the door! Sir I have to work tomorrow said Nikki as she tried to plead with the detective but it was no use she was already in handcuffs getting lead to the car behind her brother.

Harris County Head Quarters

Mr. Carter you are a hard man to find said detective Boonie as he leaned on the table across from Marco. I can't tell you found me. Yeah but it's been a minute and your sister is really a low key person, who in the world is she hiding from? None of her information is public it's like she vanished. You here to talk to me or ask questions about my sister? Oh I'm definitely here to talk to you. Well let's get down to business said Marco as he leaned back in the chair with a mug on his face. What if I told you that you were on video at Valley Storage Unit committing a murder? Well if you have video then you know it wasn't me committing that murder. Yeah I knew you was going to say that but here's where it get's really messy. We still haven't found your boy Blade but we do know that it was you and Blade in that car. I didn't kill anyone said Marco. Where yall fucked up at is running off with that crackhead car. Now I'm giving you a chance to get less time before we find Blade and he turn state on you. You just got to find Blade because I didn't kill anybody. What about your sister? You just gonna let her go down like this? I need a lawyer said Marco as he laid his head on the table with nothing else to say. Lawyer up then said detective Boonie as he stormed out the room. Feeling as if he had one last card to play the detective walked in the room where Nikki was being held. Sorry to keep you waiting for so long, would you like anything to drink? No! Why am I here? You committed a crime and we explained to you what that crime was when we placed those handcuffs on you but you can make this right. I'm listening. Do you know where I can find Blade? Who is Blade asked Nikki looking confused? Who all live with you Mrs. Carter? Just me and my brother why? So you mean to tell me Marco lives with you but you don't know who any of his friends is? No Marco don't bring those guys around me what he does in those streets he keep it in the streets. Can we search your house? There's nothing there. Well you don't have anything to hide said the detective trying to get the okay. Can I leave here tonight? I can't see that happening you would have to see a judge first. Well since we discussing judges and everything I think I need a lawyer. Detective Boonie had just played all his cards and still came up with no confession. Thinking Nikki would be an easy target to only come up empty handed. Detective Boonie main target now was Blade to make his case solid.

Chapter 2

Trying to dig myself out this hole

After sitting in a holding cell for hours Nikki was placed in D Quad cell unit on the fourth floor. Feeling like she was walking into the jungle Nikki tried to find a bunk where she could sit down and hear herself think. Eventually spotting one in the corner Nikki quickly placed her quilt and toothpaste she was given on top of the bunk she had now claimed as hers. This your first time here I bet said the lady that was laying on the bottom bunk. Yes replied Nikki in a dry tone. What you get caught stealing? I don't steal. Well you in here for something and you might as well change that tone because it doesn't matter how fucked up you are about it you still in this bitch. Nikki stopped what she was doing and stirred at the lady wishing she would just let her be. It's true nobody wants to be in here but until something shake this is your home now. This will never be my home, I'm in here for some bullshit. Well do something about it said the lady as she tapped her bunk twice for Nikki to sit down. I'm Nikki. I'm Jerry probably the oldest one you gonna meet in this cell. Wow what crime could you have possibly committed? Got caught up selling pills to a undercover for a entire year so now I have a few indictments hanging over my head. A whole year said Nikki. Yes the motherfucker broke bread with me, ate at my house he even chilled with my family and friends. I don't know who case sounds the worst yours or mine. I caught a charge for harboring a fugitive. Damn who was you trying to hide your baby daddy? My brother no baby daddy's over here. Where your brother at now? He's in jail too they're trying to say he killed somebody but I don't believe that it's more to this story. Right now worry about yourself and then once you are free you can try and help your brother out. What you think I'm looking at? Do you think they will dismiss this at court tomorrow? Nikki was so worried until she began to ask questions to someone who was fighting their own battle. I doubt it once you get into the system it becomes a money thing unless they have no evidence on you then they would have no choice but to dismiss it. But being that you was there caught trying to hide your brother is a different story, you're going to need a lawyer. I can't believe I'm caught in the middle of this shit, I have a job and a life. You not the only one in here who has a job and a life hell some of these women have kids at home, nobody wants to be here. The next step is trying to get out of here so you can get a lawyer; can you call your parents? My parents are dead. My bad. It's okay said Nikki blowing it off as if it was nothing. I have a best friend who's been with me through thick and thin. Okay so she's down by law asked Jerry? I would say that she has never let me down before. Well go call her. I'm going to wait and see what happens tomorrow because there's nothing she can do today. I don't even have a bond right now. Nikki sat and talked with Jerry for a few minutes before crawling into her bunk to lay down. She covered her head with the blanket she was given and began sob in silence not wanting the other inmates to hear her in fear of what they might say. Nikki may have come across as taking a nap to some of the other inmates but Jerry could hear her cry out as she continued to read her book and look over the sighs that was coming from her new bunkie.

Lunch time said Jerry as she tapped Nikki on the shoulder. What time is it? 4:30 pm you been sleep for two hours, those other hours you spent crying. I can't even believe I shut my eyes in this place. Well you gotta get some rest come on let's grab a tray. When Nikki got to the front of the line and took a tray she couldn't believe her eyes as she just stood there. Say ma' you done asked the girl behind her? Nikki quickly came too as she took a seat next to Jerry. This is what they feed you in here? This shit look like slop! Girl if you stay in here longer than a month I guarantee you will be slopping that tray down like you at a five star restaurant. I don't think so replied Nikki with a frown on her face. Who cooks this stuff? I heard the FED'S cook our food. You got to be kidding me. No a guard told me that. So they letting inmates cook other inmates food, I can't eat this. Well just slide that tray on over here said Jerry. Nikki pushed her tray in front of Jerry and went back to her bunk wishing the day would pass by
