The Oath and the Raven

About this ebook
Raven is a young half-elf, gifted with magic that pours through his veins. He yearns to learn how to control as it burns him from inside. Unfortunately, the Kingdom of Valter forbids learning magic outside the Academy in the capital. Plus, only nobles can study there, and those imbued with natural talent are forced to see their gifts burn away, taking many of them with it.
The local village festival has finally come. Here, wizards from around the kingdom go and choose someone to become an apprentice. Even though it's only tradition for them to come, Raven feels he'll get selected and be an exception to the rule. While celebrating, he hears a voice promising to teach him the ways of sorcery. Is it one of the wizards coming to the festival or something or someone else entirely? All Raven knows is that the voice is old, ancient, and one that the world hasn't heard in centuries.

The Oath and the Raven - Matthew Angelo
Raven Covensinger plodded through the village of Crowbrook. The annual harvest festival currently brought outsiders to town to celebrate. It also gave farmers a chance to sell their crops. The festivities also brought a few local wizards looking for an apprentice to teach the ways of magic. It happened every year. However, every Master wizard left without taking an apprentice. They saw the chances of a local village producing magical talent unlikely in the Kingdom of Valter.
This is going to be my year. It has to be. With every day that passed, Raven's blood burned more from the magic that dwelled inside him. From an early age, his adopted parents knew he differed from the others. Even though Raven had the blood of an elf flowing through his system, he also had human blood.
It wasn't the elven blood in me that scared them. My magic did. He knew his parents loved him, but they saw him as elven too. His human father taught him carpentry skills and how to use a bow when they went hunting. Even his mother doted on him, much to his father's frustration. In the end, his power scared them. Like them, he wasn't sure if it was because of his elven blood or a curse from the gods.
This year, his parents pushed him to try for an apprenticeship. Now, in Crowbrook, Raven saw a potential future as a wizard that he never considered before. He hoped a Master wizard would take him on and teach him
