Forgotten Poems and Art

About this ebook
I had the idea to create this book with my Mom so that we could share my poetry and her artwork, some of the simple beauty in our lives that is all too often forgotten. The world is changing significantly, but remembering all that has been forgotten, all that has been good and even great, is what this book is about. We hope you enjoy.
Jonathan S. Connelly
About the Poet, Jonathan Stephen ConnellyI grew up in the greater Philadelphia area and entered the Navy in 2000 when I was 17 years old. I wrote these poems while I was at my first assignment, the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, RI. Translating what I saw, heard, smelled, tasted, and felt into these poems helped me grow and laid the foundations for my Naval career. I had the idea to create this book with my Mom so that we could share my poetry and her art, some of the simple beauty in our lives that is all too often forgotten. The world has changed significantly since the year 2000, but remembering all that has been forgotten, all that has been good and even great, is what this book is about. We hope you enjoy.

Forgotten Poems and Art - Jonathan S. Connelly
Sometimes I think that I will miss
The wind whispering through the trees,
The gulls singing their random songs,
The ocean rolling upon the shore,
And the dull resonance of a foghorn
Sounding from a boat far off in the bay.
I fade in restless sleep
When nothing is left to do.
Remembering, remembering my Navy blues.
A song so sad and oddly satisfying,
I whisper of it in my letters home.
What will it be like when I return there?
To the shores of rock
Where there are as many full sails
As birds in the wind.
In a barren place comes such bold beauty.
Where others fear comes courage to me.
But in what world can I find such a place?
Not in a cottage or a place of God.
For this beauty is human and natural.
It is bedtime, so softly I must sleep.

Medium: watercolor on watercolor paper over graphite
Dimensions: 10.5 x 14 inches
One of my earliest paintings, Ship was completed during my junior year of high school. My early work exhibits a free-flowing impressionistic style that came naturally.

Sarah
With the eloquent rhyme of her words,
She touches my heart and soul,
Can infatuation feel like this?
Or can it be that I am in love.
Like arms of embrace,
I wrap my mind around the essence of her.
I anticipate the moment we meet,
Like a skipper awaits an inevitable puff of wind,
The moment when every second lasts an hour
And emotion fades away like a dream.
