About this ebook

Called to Rota contains two novellas set before the Rota Rising series. In Choosing Sean, Tyche and the other Council of Good Fortune members decide who will be their first champion. Asclepius, the God of Healing, has a hand in the choice, and Tyche is one of Sean's few champions. She sees the young med student has promise, even if his life is destined to be cut short. Can they change his fortunes for the better?

In Calling Tyche, Tyche hears the call to Rota. She knows what will happen, what is foretold to come. If the island calls the Council of Good Fortune home, then the forces of chaos have arisen once more. She can't ignore the call. And yet, she fears it. Will she accept knowing it means she'll have to turn away from everything, including her consort and her beloved Par Impar?

    Choosing Sean

Tyche stared at the swirling pool of water below the chamber where the Council of Good Fortune met. She’d been tasked with bringing this one into their merry little band. She had no idea what to call them. Warriors for good? Warriors for luck? Except only one of them would be a warrior and this one healed. Or he would once his training finished.

The dark-skinned young man in a white coat looked intently at a patient while an older gentleman spoke, explaining something. Asclepius no doubt could look at what was happening and explain it, or at least understand it. All she knew was that humans were fragile, and so it’d been her voice rising above the other goddesses on the Council calling for a healer. After a consultation with the fates, this young man was the most likely candidate. And she’d be the one to convince the Council that he was the one she wanted.

She swallowed hard and squared her shoulders. Rota asked much of anyone, and more of mortals than others. Could she do this? Could she bring a human into this world? She had to. If we cannot convince them to stay, then we are not allowed to go back for another. They believe that if someone’s thread is due to be cut, it must happen otherwise the world will go out of balance.

Fortuna snorted. It’s out of balance now. Can they not see that? The work of Kairos continues and does not stop just because the fates want a little balance.

Retenuet leaned forward, and her cobra visage, which she mostly kept hidden, slid into view. The serpent glared at them, its tongue flicking in and out. A primal fear hit Tyche, and she reminded herself that she was a goddess, and the snake would not hurt her. "Death is honorable. There are those
