About this ebook

Everyone at Noble Dreams is preparing for a huge three-day show, especially Linda who struggles with infertility and needs some wins in something. In spite of her health issues, she remains competitive in the hunter ring and with her husband working extra hours at the hospital, she wants to feel as if she still can do it all. Except she worries her husband focuses too much on his job, and all she wants is to have her spouse support her as much as she supports him.

Note: This novella takes place before the events of book 2, Correction on Course, but can be read as a standalone story. The Noble Dreams series is equestrian women's literature which follows four barn friends as they pursue their horse show dreams while dealing with their demanding families and careers. Perfect for those horse crazy girls who never grew out of their equine obsession and still have a few of those old, treasured Breyer horse statues.

Linda checked her suitcase again, making sure she had both pairs of her white show breeches, her shirts carefully folded, and her stock tie in its jewelry box resting on top. If she were careful and made sure she wore her grooming apron when she wasn’t riding, she could get by with wearing the breeches two days in a row. She also packed a baggy pair of sweats to pull on over them to try and keep them clean. Underwear and two kinds of socks, boot and athletic, not to mention an extra sports bra, filled out the edges of the small suitcase. It’d been a while since she’d gone to a show this big, but it’d be great exposure for her and Ivy, not to mention racking up those points for year-end awards.

I’m leaving this afternoon and I’ll be back on Monday. You have my cell phone if you need me, she told Kevin as he shaved in the bathroom.

The running water stopped. I know. I’ll be fine. You’ve left me plenty of food to take in my lunches, and there’s always the hospital cafeteria. Go. Have fun. Win lots. The water resumed as he finished shaving before his twelve-hour shift at the hospital.

Someday you should come see me ride, she said.

The water stopped again. It’s important I take these extra shifts if I want to be seen as available for future promotions. You know that. His tone held an almost patronizing tone, as if he’d said that more than once to her and was tired of repeating himself.

Linda nodded, though he couldn’t see it. I know. I just thought…It’s okay. I know how important all of this is for us.

The water started up again and Laura knew the conversation had ended. She double and triple checked her suitcase, then fastened it. She zipped her garment bag with her show coat and carried both to the car. She loaded her helmet and boot bag, knowing she’d get her tack when she arrived at the barn. She returned just as her husband finished shaving. I’m going to head out, honey. I’ll text you if there’s any news.

    Good luck. He
