About this ebook
It was a normal day in the universe when I went to consult Dr Khehlelezi, which was when he got to know of my gift for writing. It is then that he told me that he wanted to tell The Untold Story of Ubunyanga. He said that his YouTube channel doesn't cater for people worldwide due to the language barrier. He explained that he felt the need to explain Idlozi nokuthwasa, a few procedures that Abelaphi Bendabuko can perform and some of the issues surrounding Ubunyanga.
To put the book together, I worked independently as an artist, conducting interviews, gathering observations, consulting social media pages and watching YouTube channels of Abelaphi Bendabuko. I do hope that what you read here will help cast light on the Untold Story of Ubunyanga.

Traditional healing is an abstract term that describes someone who uses herbs to cure various illnesses, using knowledge passed down to them by the ancestors. We say it is abstract because there is no physical interaction between the person and their ancestors. Most of the medicines they use have not been scientifically proven to be effective. However, they can provide treatment for diseases that even western medicine cannot cure.
Normally, a person who has a calling to be a soothsayer, prophet and/or a traditional healer notices that they are different
from a very young age. Some tend to reveal how things will transpire, some hear voices and whistles in their ears while others have strange dreams. There are various ways that ancestors use to reveal their presence and they will differ from person to person.
Ancestral spirits have unique names and each one possesses different qualities. Examples could be: umndiki, umndawe, isithunywa, umlozi, or amakhosi. Initiation for these spirits is not the same in each case. In certain circumstances, people do not undergo ukuthwasa but they have amagobongo. When you are a descendant of a family in which a person had these spirits, you are most likely to have them too.
I urge you to fasten your seat belts as we dwell on the spiritual journey of Ubunyanga with Dr Khehlelezi (Inyanga yodumo).
Bhongolethu Mzozo, better known as Dr Khehlelezi, was born in the Eastern Cape in South Africa, in a village called eMzinto. He juggles Ubunyanga with evangelism and with this book he hopes to break the stereotypes surrounding traditional healing.
Dr Khehlelezi is said to have received his ancestral calling (ubizo) at the tender age of eleven years. He accepted his calling and went to initiation (ekuthwaseni) in a neighbouring country, Zimbabwe. Upon his return, he committed his life to healing people through prophecy and herbs.
Most people, especially those who believe in Christianity, tend to believe ancestors are demonic spirits that possess people and turn them into anti-Christs.
Dr Khehlelezi, however, is living proof that religion and idlozi go hand in hand. He has his own congregation and heals people through the guidance of the Almighty and that of his ancestors. He also serves as a radio host on Vuma FM. He practices Ubunyanga from a separate location in Verulam, eMahlabathini.
Dr Khehlelezi was born in 1990. He’s a married man and a father of three. He loves his wife to the core and in the year 2020 he surprised her with a brand-new Mercedes G63. While we are still on that subject, on the 5th of August (his birthday) his wife surprised him with a brand-new Lamborghini Urus worth R5 million. The couple always shower each other with expensive gifts and other Mzansi celebrity couples fail to keep up.
Dr Khehlelezi is said to own a luxurious mansion in Umhlanga, dresses to kill and owns a collection of cars. He has his own YouTube channel and has a song titled Dr Khehlelezi by Msaycho, in which he later featured a Gqom star Mampintsha. He’s an active participant against Gender Based Violence. This is attested to in an interview he held on Vuma FM with Pastor Sthembiso Zondo, in which they differentiated between a man and a male person. He does not discriminate against anyone, even those who form part of the LGBT community. He is strongly against the use of human body parts by traditional healers to create muthi,
