About this ebook

Meredith always dreamed of being whisked off her feet by a prince—she just didn't realize he'd be a blue-scaled alien warrior.

Working a dead-end job in a chocolate shop, Meredith Sinclair has all but buried her dreams of finding happiness.

But when a bland-looking man comes into the shop and starts asking her suspicious questions, the most ridiculous thing happens—he turns into a horned, seven-foot tall alien before her very eyes.

Sent on an expedition to determine the intelligence of the human species, Lord Kyrix Yio'naeus doesn't expect his cloaking device to break down on his first mission.

When a human sees his true form, he has no choice but to take her back to his ship. But at the touch of her soft skin, his blood ignites like it has with no other female.

When the Herkleian government orders Meredith transferred to a lab for study, Kyrix will do anything to save her. Is it possible a human could be the fated mate to an alien royal?

And even if she is, will Meredith and Kyrix be able to escape his crew for a future together?

Kyrix is a prequel to the Bride to an Alien Prince series. This standalone story has on-the-page heat, a guaranteed happily-ever-after, no cheating, and no cliffhanger.

    Chapter 1

    Meredith

Meredith yawned as the generic pop music playing in Cocoa Love looped to the beginning of the playlist. For the fifth time. The damn lyrics literally haunted her dreams at this point. She couldn’t even listen to the radio at home without suffering a flashback. Meredith yawned again. If the music didn’t kill her, maybe boredom would. Either fate was definitely preferable at this point.

Meredith straightened from where she slouched by the cash register. She shook her head, quickly stretched her arms, and started her thousandth lap of the store. It was an hour after lunch on a Wednesday, leaving the tiny shop empty. She plucked a chocolate from one of the product display bins, unwrapped it, and popped it in her mouth. The only perk of Cocoa Love was the free chocolate.

She dragged her feet, but her lap still only took two minutes. Meredith settled back behind the counter and sighed. Two degrees from expensive colleges and she wasn’t even qualified to be the manager of a Cocoa Love. Life was going really well.

If only there were a customer to distract her. Meredith snorted at herself. On one hand, customers made the shift go by faster. On the other, some customers enjoyed being difficult. Meredith was considering her pros and cons when a man in his early thirties strolled into the store, rendering her thoughts useless.

Welcome to Cocoa Love, would you like a sample? Meredith pasted on her fakest smile and nearly cringed at the pitch of what she called her customer service voice. The corporate mandate said she had to welcome every customer and offer them a free chocolate. And damn, it got tiring when most people strolled into the store simply for samples and nothing else.

Hello, the man said, his voice a deep contrast to his rather bland appearance. Something about his face was incredibly unremarkable. His hair was a light brown, the same shade as Meredith’s, and his eyes a blank gray. He wore a beige trench coat over a basic suit, almost straight out of Mad Men. I wish you a good afternoon, female.

Meredith blinked at him. Female? What the heck? That was weird, but maybe English was his second language. Not that Meredith faulted him. Spanish was technically her second language, but even after years of schooling, she couldn’t string more than a sentence together. ‘Dónde está el baño?’ and ‘Quiero una pizza?’ were the extent of her skills.

She kept her smile bright. Can I help you find anything in particular today?

He didn’t glance around the store, but held direct eye contact with her. I’m from the Government of Earth. You will answer some questions for me.

Government of Earth? Okay. Double weird. Meredith didn’t know what this guy’s joke was, but she had nothing better to do. Her bitch manager, Kris, had taken the afternoon off to get a manicure. Meredith would be alone in the store for the next four hours. Sure, go for it.

The man pulled out a notepad. Go for it? That is an expression for saying yes?

    Ummm, yeah? Or, uh, yes?

He shook his head. Your people have the oddest language.

Her people? Did he mean Americans? He continued on as if he hadn’t just insulted her entire country. Then I shall commence with questions. What would you say is Earth’s greatest invention?

Meredith leaned back against the counter and chuckled. Sliced bread?

The man didn’t laugh at her joke. Meredith didn’t mind. She was one of those weird people who enjoyed making jokes purely for her own entertainment. And you like bread?

Hell, yeah, I do. I’d say it makes up half my diet. I’m literally addicted to garlic bread.

His eyebrows raised. Addiction is not good.

She frowned. "Well, yeah. I’m not literally addicted."

    He stared at her blankly.

    I meant figuratively?

He nodded but still didn’t seem content in her answer. Is addiction a common problem for your species?

    Her species? This had
