I am in my early 50s and have been writing now since I was 12. I prefer to write light-hearted drama but have written a little fantasy horror and science fiction too.I have an entire series of high school novels (19 of them so far) set in New Zealand (The Mob from TAC series), which I will gradually publish if there is a demand.I prefer to use a mix of quirky and outrageous characters you would never come across in reality and also your every day Joes.My writings are aimed at teenagers mainly, but also young adults.I have also written a series of detective novelettes, most of which can be found on my website. The majority require work, to be able to be published here, mainly due to copyright issues. Please do leave feedback or contact me if you want to know more about my books.

CHAPTER 1:
Expensive Tastes
Disneyland Resort Hotel - Anaheim - California
Will Ullman had been given a most pleasurable job, one that he got to do very rarely and that was to escort Vanessa Dante to a private fashion show in the city. Normally she had a group of crack bodyguards who accompanied her to events like this, but on this occasion, she felt that security for the event was adequate. Nevertheless, Vanessa hated going to events like this on her own because she was always hit on mercilessly by men.
‘If Rexy goes with me, it’s great,’ she said, referring to her fiancé Rex Cassidy. They were childhood sweethearts and had finally decided after all these years that it was time to get married. ‘None of those creeps dare hit on me when he’s around. His presence is enough to scare them away. 6 foot 4 and ripped. On my own though, I hate it. Most of them know I’m taken too, but it still doesn’t stop them.’
Marriage had never been an issue for Vanessa and Rex as they had always considered themselves life partners, destined to be together. After recent events, though, they had decided that marriage was what they wanted. Something official that would once and for all cement their position in the eyes of everyone.
‘At least if one of my male friends is there, it might deter the jerks,’ Vanessa had said. ‘And maybe with this huge gem-studded engagement ring it might actually announce that I’m already taken… at least to the more respectful guys… although I’ve always had a ring on my finger when Rex and I have been together, but that never seemed to deter a lot of people.’
Wal was delighted to be the one that got to go with her to the fashion show, despite normally finding that sort of thing a drag. Not only would he have the chance to spend some social time with Vanessa, get to enjoy her company and have an excuse to gaze at her gorgeous face, he would even have the opportunity to hit on a few models. At least he hoped so. One thing was for certain, Vanessa would be looking for that opportunity herself and he could simply ride in on her coattails, maybe picking up the straight ones.
Vanessa’s eyes were fixed on one of the models walking down the catwalk. ‘Seems funny to be watching one of these, instead of actually being up there on the catwalk. Oooh, I love that gown she’s wearing.’
‘That is a hot one,’ Wal said. ‘What’s that going for I wonder?’
‘Probably about 30 grand.’
‘Sheesh! Only a woman would buy an item of clothing that expensive, but I guess that constitutes about 5 minutes of modelling time for you, Ness.’
‘Ha ha ha. Something like that.’.
‘Although I guess it’s like wearing rags next to that insanely expensive engagement ring of yours.’
Vanessa lifted her hand up and gazed at the ring. She ran her finger over one of the rubies. ‘It’s the real thing. I still can’t believe it. Being married never really mattered to me before… to either of us, but now we’re officially engaged it just seems so surreal.’
‘Ahhhh, Ness… Focus. These amazing gowns are passing you by without you even getting a look.’
She smiled, but continued to gaze at her ring. ‘I just can’t believe how wonderful it feels. Especially after all that’s happened… I never thought it would feel this way.’
‘Imagine how you will feel when you’re actually married.’
‘Yeah huh!’
Wal couldn’t help but snicker as a thought crossed his mind. ‘Actually, that will be the death knell of your sex life and everything. As soon as you get married all that stuff comes to an end. All that lovey dovey stuff… all the making out and sweet nothings in the ears. It’ll all just fade away.’
Finally, Vanessa turned her eyes up from the ring and she pulled a face. Even distorted she was still stunning. Even though she was in her mid-30s she looked more like she was late-20s. ‘Nuh uh. That will never happen between us. Don’t forget Rex and I have been together for over half our lives. We’ve already lived together like a married couple… and do so even now and it’s never dulled our passion, not one little bit. The secret is to keep things fresh and keep things exciting. We have no problem in that department, never have. Oh and it helps when you’re so perfectly suited and in tune with one another too. Most couples don’t get that.’
Wal leaned back and stretched out his legs. ‘Yeah, yeah, I know, you’re always telling us that. You and Rex are the perfect couple, destined to be together… bla bla bla.’
‘Yeah-huh and don’t you forget it, bub.’
Half an hour later Wal shook his head unable to believe it when Vanessa purchased three amazing outfits, costing her a total of over a hundred thousand dollars.
‘Custom clothes. One of a kind.’ she insisted. ‘Fabulous and Rexy will love to see me in them.’
‘Yeah, and I’ll bet he’ll love peeling them off you even more.’
‘But of course.’
There was a cocktail party at the end. This was the chance for Wal to rub shoulders with beautiful models. He still had a responsibility though and that was to interact with Vanessa on a regular basis so that other men would be less likely to hit on her. If any looked as though they were getting too friendly Wal would turn up there with an intimidating look to scare them off.
A man approached him, quite a young, athletic man. He shook Wal’s hand and introduced himself as Rodney Morgan. ‘Wow, your girlfriend is phenomenal.’
Wal would have loved to have pretended she was his girlfriend, but knew better than to claim something like that when it came to Vanessa. Not if he didn’t want to be slapped by Vanessa herself. ‘She’s not my girl. She’s my best mate’s fiancé.’
‘So what are you doing here with her then?’
‘Keeping her company.’
‘Ha ha ha. Keeping her company eh? Does her guy know that’s what’s going on?’
‘Yes. He’s the one who asked me to accompany her here.’
‘I wouldn’t trust anyone if I had a chick like that.’
Wal gripped his cocktail glass but remained as civil as possible. ‘Some people can be trusted.’ He scowled.
‘If I were you I’d be all over her every chance I got.’
‘Which is why you’d never ever be in her social circle, pal. She’s my mate’s fiancé! And she only has eyes for him, dude.’
Rodney snorted. ‘Whatever, man. A chick like that doesn’t need to settle for just one guy, no matter how rich the guy is. I’m gonna try my luck.’
Wal really had to bite his tongue now. He hated creeps targeting Vanessa too and he could see this was one guy who would try his luck even knowing what he knew. ‘Look, pal. I’m here to make sure clueless bastards like you stay away from her. She doesn’t want guys hitting on her.’
Morgan snorted. ‘Give me a break! Is she that loose that she needs a chaperone to keep an eye on her?’
‘I’m not here to chaperone. Just to make sure she enjoys her evening without every single jerk in the building coming onto her. If her fiancé was available, he’d be here with her, but he had some important business he had to take care of.’
Morgan snickered. ‘Whatever.’ He peered over at Vanessa. ‘Ya know, she’s really familiar to me. Is she an actress or something? I’ve seen her on TV, right?’
‘If you knew who she was, you wouldn’t be taking any chances, because you’d know who her husband is and I tell you, you don’t want to get on the wrong side of him.’
‘But he ain’t here, is he?’
‘And you don’t want to get on the wrong side of me either. Or her for that matter. She can deal with creeps like you.’
‘So why does she need you for?’
The rage anger bubbled up inside Wal ‘So she doesn’t have to deal with creeps like you! She’s Vanessa Dante, jerk! Her fiancé is Rex Cassidy.’
‘Vanessa Dante?’ Morgan’s face lit up. ‘You mean the supermodel? Ah shit, I should have known.’
‘Did you hear me? Her fiancé is Rex Cassidy. Do you know who he is?’
‘Isn’t he some private investigator or something?’
‘Yeah! And he’s a master in five different forms of unarmed combat and if you knew anything about him you’d know he’s fiercely protective of her. Will massacre anyone who upsets her. You don’t wanna go there.’
Morgan snickered yet again. ‘You assault someone for hitting on a chick, you end up in jail. You’re exaggerating.’
‘Am I? Best not
