‘I AND I ARE THE ROOTS!’
The melodic rhythm of Bob Marley echoes through the ganja filled atmosphere of the CLINIC. It’s February 19, 2013, and the world is full of mixed emotions. A month earlier Barak Obama, a black man, swore in to a second term as President of the United States of America. This is particularly eventful for Malcolm King, because he is a small business owner, a double minority (a black ex con), and funds are plentiful, for his particular disposition. Things are so great that he and Cinque opened a club in Jamaica.
Today is his father’s birthday, and he is in his office sipping on Johnnie Walker Blue; just remembering The Rev...As he is leaning back in his plush, Egyptian cotton, office chair, he closes his eyes. ‘Long way from Sylacauga Daddy’ he thought ‘Preciate all the lessons AND blessings’. Blissfully, reminiscing on the good old days, he subconsciously hears the door ease open. Knowing that it has to be Isis or Cinque, he just continues in his zone. After a brief moment the aura begins to feel cold and eerie, in the room, to Malcolm. So, he leans up in the chair and cracks open his eyes. Cinque?!
he whispers questioningly, staring down the barrel of a .38 caliber hand gun.
Bang!...Bang!Bang!
Isis steps through the door, with the stoic elegance of a queen. Beautiful! Graceful! Ruthless! Is he dead?
she asks.
Yah
Cinque calmly replies. It’s done. Carry on like everything is ‘business as usual’ and I’ll take care of the rest....Relax....everything is under control.
Isis’ voluptuous, 5’11, frame wraps around Cinque as she whispers,
Okay baby", then she gently flicks the tip of her tongue across his ear lobe, before disappearing back into the club.
The King? Betrayed by the Queen and his right-hand man? A typical ending to a story of money, lust, and power. But how did it begin?
CHAPTER 1
Sylacauga, AL- Summer 1988
THAT WAS A BEAUTIFUL sermon Reverend King
, Ms. Johnson replied, as the small southern baptist church, emptied on a typical Sunday, in the middle of an Alabama summer. It’s 1988 and Malcolm King is a well-mannered, teenage, preacher’s son. But not today...The presence of a new family, the Johnsons, and specifically their daughter has got young Malcolm’s hormones in overdrive, I am-
‘Who is that?’ Malcom is thinking, right along with all the other teenage boys in the Sunday morning service, as young miss Isis Johnson gracefully exited the sanctuary. She’s about 16 or 17, he thought, with long silky black hair that seemed to glisten against her chocolate mocha complexion. Her aura commanded attention, The 4 inch open toe heels, that revealed her well pedicured toes, elevated her voluptuous frame to at least 6 feet. She had him hyp-merized.
Malcolm! Malcolm!
Rev King implored, get your head out of the clouds son and introduce yourself.
H-Hi...I’m Malcolm
Hello Malcolm, I am Ms Johnson...This is my husband Mr Johnson, and our daughter Isis.
Pleased to meet you
Malcolm replied. ‘DANG ISIS!...YOU FINE AS FROG HAIR!...WHERE YALL FROM?...YALL JUST VISITING?...YALL JOINING THE CHURCH?’... Is what he really wanted to say.
We’ve recently moved here from Louisville, KY, and we are looking for a church home,
she explained. We like the pleasant atmosphere and hospitality-
she could have been speaking Martian, as far as Malcolm was concerned, he was lost in the beauty of Isis.
3 MONTHS LATER
The Johnsons joined Reverend King’s church and over time Malcolm and Isis became acquainted, but Malcolm still felt a bit nervous in her presence. There was something about Isis that Malcolm couldn’t quite figure out. Maybe it was because ‘she is from the city’, he thought, ‘that’s why she’s so intriguing’. Not to mention, Malcolm is a country boy that hasn’t left the county, except for church functions, school field trips and Lead Pipe’s annual Children’s Day. Malcolm is green, and Isis know’s it.
This particular Sunday morning, Isis and Malcolm were sitting outside of the church waiting for the services to start. Malcolm, are you still a virgin?
Isis asked, playfully.
I-I. Am I what?
