Thanks to successive waves of migration and its recent transformation into a global financial centre, Luxembourg offers a rich tapestry of culinary traditions from all over the world. Some of the best places to eat are hidden in plain sight, and in this section we’ve tried to let you in on a few of the best-kept secrets. At the same time, we believe there is still plenty more to discover, so why not get out there and find your own favourite spot?

Ready?!, which is located on a quiet street in uptown Limpertsberg, is a favourite hangout of young expats and locals alike. The café offers a relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy a London Fog tea latte or a flat white alone or with friends. The food is simple but delicious: why not treat yourself to a well-deserved Saturday brunch, complete with freshly squeezed juices, sumptuous bagels, homemade banana bread and a wide variety of delicious cakes?

Nestled in an attractive corner of Place de Paris, Paname is where Luxembourg’s young urban professionals meet up for drinks and brunch. This spacious, airy, tastefully decorated venue has a cosmopolitan vibe that can be hard to come by in this tiny capital city. You certainly won’t regret stopping by for a serving of avocado toast and a glass of homemade lemonade.

As the first Italian restaurant in the Grand Duchy, Onesto’s reputation rests on both its history and its perfect wood-fired pizzas. It’s housed in a historic building and boasts several cosy rooms and a spacious veranda, as well as a terrace for sunny days. In addition to its famous pizzas, the menu offers a host of other traditional Italian dishes and homemade desserts.

This homely café is one of the highlights of the increasingly popular Bonnevoie neighbourhood. Striking the right balance between local pub and hipster hangout, it attracts a mixed crowd with its extensive beer selection and simple, high-quality dishes. We particularly recommend stopping by for Sunday brunch and sunny afternoons on the terrace.

Come à la Maison

This place may be a bit hard to find, but it’s worth the effort. In a beautiful space that feels like a cross between a bohemian library and an antique shop, you can enjoy excellent Italian cuisine and arguably the city’s best Sunday brunch. It’s a hip spot in an up-and-coming neighbourhood, which means that it can get busy, so we strongly recommend making a reservation.

This warmly decorated restaurant near the lift leading to the Grund neighbourhood serves up authentic Brazilian food, adding to the rich tapestry of national cuisines available in Luxembourg. It stands out for its healthy, tasty salads and grilled meat – and don’t miss the excellent caipirinhas!

Purple Sage

Purple Sage forms part of a new generation of Luxembourg restaurants that focus on serving quality food in a relaxed setting – a combination that wasn’t always easy to find until recently. The menu features plenty of English and American classics, but the ingredients are locally sourced. The crumpets, all-day breakfast and Sunday brunch come highly recommended (for the brunch, keep an eye on the website).

On a pretty square in residential Limpertsberg, La Torre offers exactly what you’d expect from a family-run Italian restaurant: quality food, a bustling ambience and staff who take pride in their friendly service. Whether you’re inside taking in the classic décor or outside on the leafy terrace, the delicious wood-fired pizzas taste equally great. The parmigiana is a particular treat.

La Feluca

Tucked away behind Luxembourg’s unassuming national football stadium, this family-run restaurant is quite literally a hidden gem. You will be warmly greeted by the staff, who offer professional service with a personal touch. Top-notch pizza from the wood-fired oven, immaculately prepared fresh seafood and an extensive wine list, as well as a dessert menu that includes traditional Sicilian cannolo, mean that you’ll need to come back to try everything.

In a charming inner courtyard with a lovely terrace, you’ll find this café and restaurant, which owes its name to the former convent built by Capuchin monks that is located nearby. Café des Capucins offers a buffet featuring fresh organic products every Sunday, which is sure to delight any brunch lover and help you make the most of your weekend.
