~~~~~ PG Excerpt ~~~~~
Max backed off a few scant inches and raised her eyebrows at him. “Come on, Corey. You’re not dumb. I’m trying to get you into bed. I’m single, horny, and I haven’t been laid in weeks.” She put her hand on his leg, disturbingly close to his crotch. “And I like you. A lot. You’re smart, and you work hard, and you’ve been a huge help to me the last week.”
“So this is a reward?”
“Yes.” Her lightning smile flashed out. “But not for you. For me.”
“But Melody...” he stammered.
Her smile widened. “Bring her with next time, if you want. I don’t go lez very often, but I’ve got an open mind. Besides, she looks cute.”
His heart was pounding. “What? Are you kidding me?”
“Maybe, a little. But what I want from you has nothing to do with what you have with Melody,” she said firmly. “I’m not in love with you, though I think you’re a good young man. I don’t want to be your girlfriend, or go on dates with you, or get married to you and settle down with two-point-three kids and a cat named Snowball. I just want to screw.”
His mouth was desert-dry. “What if I say no?”
She shrugged. He fought to keep his eyes from straying to her chest, hidden by a loose t-shirt. “If you say no, you say no. You still owe me a couple of weeks’ worth of work. But nothing at the shop will change.” Her lips quirked. “I’m not going to turn into some screaming bitch just because you didn’t want to screw. You’re not the first man who’s told me no. And you probably won’t be the last.”
Somehow Corey found his voice, though it seemed hoarse and raspy in his ears. “They must be idiots, then.”
“Oh?” Max waggled her eyebrows at him. “Was that a yes?”
“I have to be out of my mind.”
She grinned widely. “That definitely sounds like a yes.”
His groping hand found her grip. Her strong fingers returned it, at once reassuring and arousing. “Why me?”
“Why not? You’re young, attractive, smart, and decent. I’m horny. Seems like a match to me.”
“But...”
“Corey.” Her voice brought him out of an incipient panic. “Don’t get all weird about this, all right? I know you’re young. But you’ll learn. Sometimes sex...is just sex. It doesn’t have to come with candles and fireworks and a bouquet of flowers. Sometimes it’s just a really, really fun way to spend an hour or two.”
“An hour?”
“Maybe longer.” She opened the door, leaning to grin in through the opening. “Coming? Or are you going to wait out here?”
“I have to be out of my mind,” he repeated, but he smiled when he said it.
    Chapter 1
    All right, Corey’s mother said, glancing out the kitchen window to see if her ride to the airport had arrived. Let’s hear the rules.
    He stifled a sigh. Seriously? Again?
    "Yes, Corey. Again. If I’m going to be leaving you here on your own for a week, I want to make sure that both of us agree on what is and what is not going to be allowed while I’m not around. She set her hands on her ample hips. It’s not too late to call your father and tell him to come and pick you up. Do you really want to stay with Tyrell all week? Push me much further and you will."
    Fine, fine. He raised his hands in surrender. No parties. No alcohol. Home by eleven every night. He ticked the points off on his fingers as his mother nodded. No one here after ten. I can use the credit card, but only for emergencies. He raised his eyebrows. Who decides if something is an emergency, anyway?
    If you think you have an emergency, call me, and I’ll let you know if it qualifies, Janet Prager said, her lips quirking. "And before you ask, having a sudden craving for deep-dish pizza is not an emergency."
    Drat. Foiled again, he grinned. What about the car?
    Your car? His mother shrugged. Drive wherever you feel like, as long as you’re home by curfew.
    No, Mom. Not my piece of junk. Your car.
    What about it?
    Can I borrow it? Just once or twice?
    No.
    Mom! Come on!
    I said no, Corey. You don’t need to show off by driving my car around. Not even for Melody. Besides, she said, her tone softening slightly, if she needs a fancy car to be convinced that you’re worth spending time with, then maybe she’s the wrong girl for you.
    All right, he grunted. He hadn’t expected his mother to give in on that point, so he didn’t press the issue. Anything else?
    Don’t eat junk food for seven days straight, she said. "Try to go to bed and get up at a decent hour. And keep the place neat. I don’t want to come home to a sink full of dirty dishes and two weeks’ worth of clothes to wash. Besides. You’re going to college in a couple of months. It’s about time you learned how to do your own laundry.
    Oh, crap. He’s here. Janet opened the door, struggling with her purse and her luggage.
    With his assistance, she lifted the suitcases into the trunk of the car, then turned to hug him. I’ll try to check in every day or two. But probably not every day. I’m going to be busy, so it might not be until late.
    I’ll be fine, Mom. I’m eighteen, not eight.
    Yes, you are. But you’ll always be my little boy. Her arms tightened around him. And don’t forget. If something really bad happens, you can call your father.
    I’ll think about it, he said dryly, though he didn’t trust his father to help out in anything that approached an emergency. There was a reason his parents had divorced, after all.
    The driver beeped his horn. Now you better go before this guy decides to drive to O’Hare without you.
    Okay. I’ll see you in a week. I love you.
    Love you too, Mom.
    He watched the car pull away, and waved as it rounded the corner at the end of the street, knowing that his mother would be looking over her shoulder. The he pulled his phone out of his pocket and texted Melody.
    ~Hey. Mom’s gone and I’ve got her car for a week. Want to go do something?~
    "Oh, man. This is sweet! Way better than that old clunker of yours, Melody said, wiggling into the leather seat. She flipped her sandy brown hair over her shoulders and smiled at him. Are you sure your mom won’t mind?"
    If she found out I was driving her brand-new Infiniti, she’d probably ground me for a month, he didn’t say. Instead he just smiled. What she doesn’t know…
    Oooh. She batted her eyelashes. A rebel. I love it!
    Fifteen minutes later, they were on the expressway, with nowhere to go and all day to get there. Corey rolled down the windows and cocked one arm out the side of the car. Melody fiddled with the sound system, squealing happily as she managed to sync her phone up with the car’s stereo. In seconds, the sound of one of her favorite dance tunes was blasting from the speakers and she was waving her arms over her head as her body swayed back and forth.
    This is awesome! she shouted over the music, and he grinned back. Because it was. They had been going out for about three months, and had graduated
