    About the Author

    Introduction

Despite the fact that many IELTS candidates take the General Training module (rather than the academic module), there are relatively few books about writing letters for General Training candidates.

This book does not tell you how to write letters, but it does show you. Candidates wishing for more details on how to write letters should use my book ‘IELTS Writing: A Comprehensive Guide’, available from the same website where you found this book. The model answers from that book are not the same as in this book.

As there are only 30 letters in this book, they have not been categorised by topic or type.

IELTS General Training candidates should note that it is very easy for the test makers to change one or more of the points to be included in the letters, despite keeping the main topic of the letter the same. This is sometimes done to prevent candidates from memorising answers.

When answering the points in General Training Writing Task 1, remember that it is not necessary to answer the points in the order in which they are presented. In fact, as a few of these model answers demonstrate, it is often more convenient not to do so.
