Dog Training - Luke Eisenberg
Communicate unambiguously with the dog
In the best case, verbal as well as nonverbal communication with the dog should take place. This is extremely helpful for understanding the dog and can even be trained to such an extent that your dog can only react to hand signals without having to give an order. Make sure that the audible and visual signals are always the same and that they are always combined in the same way, otherwise the dog may get confused and not hear at all. Also, never forget that dogs have very good hearing and therefore do not need to be yelled at. It is often more helpful to set a stricter tone (if it is really necessary) than to shout at your dog and make him insecure.
The sooner the better
It is best to start as early as possible with the education of the dog. Dogs learn faster and better at a young age than humans do, so it makes sense to start raising them as soon as the dog has moved into the house or flat. Since dogs are pack animals, it is important to know that the people surrounding the dog form its pack. Your dog will take a certain position in the pack. At the beginning of every dog education it is therefore important to show the dog that you are the boss in the pack and that the dog stands under you, because otherwise the dog will take over the leading position in the pack and do what he wants. A small exercise would be, for example, that you always leave the house in front of the dog and he is only allowed to follow you on command. That's exactly how it's done when we go home. This shows the dog that you are pretending where and when to start the walk. Another method is to bring the dog to his basket and to leash him loosely, so he learns that he is not always allowed to walk through the apartment or house as he wants. In older dogs, behavioural patterns and characteristics have usually been so strongly imprinted that it is only possible to change these patterns and teach the dog something new with a lot of patience and perseverance. Furthermore, in the worst case traumas or similar bad experiences, for example from a previous owner, can have a negative influence on an older dog.
No exceptions for small dog breeds
Masters who decide to buy a small dog often do this with the background that they are easy to handle, need less care and exercise and thus have less
