The first time we kissed, there were no sparks. I panicked, jerking back in alarm to focus on Jack's wide eyes, knowing them to be a mirror of my own. My breath wheezed like a torn bellows and I felt tears well in my eyes. I turned away from him, clutching at my stomach in a feeble attempt to control my breathing.
