I have an honours degree in Mathematics from the Open University and taught in Scotland before gaining an M.A. in English Literature. I taught English to O Level International GCSE Cambridge students for 14 years in Pakistan and was Head of Department there. My Haiku on Cultural Diversity is published in UNESCO’S Cultural Report 2000. My story of Big Samson The Big Lion (in a much shorter form) was accepted for publication by Oxford University Press, but never published for technical reasons. Currently, I have published about 12 e-books on the teaching of English, novels, short stories and poetry. My Spelling book was ranked number 1 in its category on Amazon. This book is dedicated to Tony Buzan, the creator of Mind Maps and his self-enhancing Memory System, without whom my book could not have been written.. Sadly, Tony is no longer with us, but his work lives on through his students and admirers.
I have used almost all of Tony’s ideas and one or two of my own to improve his method further in this book. I am sure he would approve of any attempt to expand human potential; his legacy lives on.
Introduction
Unless you are lucky enough to have an almost photographic memory (like Dominic O’Brien) or an exceptional one, you will need a system to improve your powers of recall. This book will, hopefully, provide you with the tools to develop that system.
The system is based on Tony Buzan’s fundamental principles of learning; namely, association, visualization, movement and imagination. Associating new ideas with previously acquired ones is the basis of all learning and requires less effort than the initial acquired learning. Think of it as analogous to making new plastic from old recycled waste plastic. Recycling is more efficient than producing new plastic from scratch.
Visualization, movement (kinesthesia) and imagination are also valuable tools that are neglected as we
