I know why I’m struggling with this...it’s not my normal conference fling opportunity...if it were that easy, I would already have suggested we head somewhere so her hand could move from my thigh to my bare ass...but, her face is THE face, from HIS phone last night!

In all my experiences at conferences, I’ve never made a connection where there is actual talk about a partnership where I bump into his WIFE later! Usually, I make some passive connections and talk about getting information back and forth in the future. We both move to the next person and nothing ever happens. I head to the bar, away from the event, meet a woman and we sneak away for what usually amounts to a rough roll in the hay. We finish and walk away, rarely even bumping into each other again.

It’s something that makes a business trip tolerable. Most of the time my wife doesn’t even want to attend, and when she does, she’d rather sit next to the pool all day, or take advantage of the tours available as a part of the package for the trip. Then, when we get together at the end of the day, she’s too tired, or too sunburned, or too drunk to make any sex worthwhile. Once, in a LONG while, when she does get horny, we’re in bed, covered, lights out and I’m on top. When I look down at her face, it’s more a look of are you finished than a look of more of that please.

I would think she was cheating on me, but I’ve already hired an investigator to follow her and there really was NOTHING happening...over a SIX MONTH period! So, she’s just not sexual anymore. I’ve resigned myself to that fact. I’ve had trip flings a couple of times a year for the last couple of years. At one point in my career, I had an assistant that started calling herself my work wife, we were never intimate, but we spent more time together at work than at home, so it was an accurate description of our relationship. She even called herself my work wife when she talked to my ACTUAL wife! Actual wife laughed at the term and it stuck. At that point, it was even more frustrating, since there was just as much sex happening at work than at home.

That assistant moved on, and now I’ve launched my own business. Still pulling the solopreneur line, it was my goal to crack into a national audience. This conference was supposed to be my break to make it happen. The audience was right, the attendees were properly confirmed.

The first night, I was in a networking session and bumped into a guy who was with a company I had targeted as a possible business partner out west. Being a Midwesterner, I was all about the banter and the rapport as we shared a couple of drinks. Mark was mid to late forties, kept himself in shape but didn’t appear to be a gym-rat or muscle-head. His hair was short and his demeanor was easy to get to know. As we talked, he mentioned his wife’s interest in a project something like I was proposing. He said she was the one I needed to talk to, because she couldn’t find the right opportunity, it always felt wrong to her.

If he was to be believed, a partnership between our companies could mean an increase to our respective revenues of nearly tenfold!

We left each other with motivation to make the connection. It could mean MILLIONS in revenue for his business AND for mine! He pulled his phone out to take my information and I could see a gorgeous woman as his desktop. She looked to be a few years younger than him, clad in a bikini, running across a beach. Her long, reddish-hair was pulled back into a ponytail, sticking almost straight back from her head. I, of course, asked about her and shared the desktop of me with my wife as we continued to exchange information and made a commitment to reconnect later that same evening.
