About this ebook

The purpose of this guidebook (and all of our guidebooks) is to enrich your child's education with DEI morals (empathy, kindness, and respect for EVERYONE). Specifically here, and using our typically succinct writing style, our goal is to help you guide your child toward kindness and respect for all religions.

You'll find step-by-step instructions for:

- Discovering what your child already knows about religious equality
- Explaining religious equality basics
- Experiencing other religions together
- Discussing religious diversity (Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Islam, Buddhism, etc.)
- Answering common questions about religion from kids

Please note: Instead of general advice like 'be a good role model' or 'talk about feelings,' our guidebooks provide specific age-appropriate examples and instructions for integrating diversity and inclusion values into daily life at home.

Author

Trish Allison

Raising two children in a non-traditional family gives Trish a unique perspective on the importance of teaching kids that everyone deserves kindness and respect.  She combined her experience as a parent, her career as a technical writer, countless hours of child psychology research, a degree in English from U.C. Berkeley, and a long-ignored passion to write something meaningful -- into a collection of DEI parenting guidebooks.  The goal of the guidebooks is not to brainwash children into a 'socialist' way of thinking, but to simply, honestly, and at an appropriate age-level, discuss and respond to children's curiosity about contemporary cultural issues.

How to Explain Religious Equality to Kids - Trish Allison

    Introduction

We have a unique opportunity at this point in history to embrace diverse values and pass sustainable respect for religious differences onto the next generation.

This guidebook boils down the importance of religious equality into understandable chunks of information so it's as easy as possible for the next generation to learn.

Learning by chunking increases working memory capacity by reducing memory load and facilitates acquisition or recall by organizing long-term memory for information in perceived stimuli, motor sequences, or cognitive representations.¹

We used chunks of vetted information throughout to help you guide your child toward a basic understanding of the importance of religious equality. A huge part of that goal is teaching them how to respect other people's freedom to choose what they believe in.

To be clear, DEI for Parents guidebooks are not intended to replace school curricula. Instead, the intent is to supplement lesson material by helping parents integrate the ‘human factor’ into homeschool conversations.

Finally, we hope that by the end of this guidebook, we’ll have shown you how to subtly guide your child toward the DEI morals (empathy, kindness, and respect for everyone) needed to consider all religions equally important.

Discover What Your Child Already Knows About Religious Equality

    ––––––––

This chapter appears first because it's important for you to find out what your child already knows about religious equality before you start guiding them. If you start saying things they already know, they're likely to tune out.

Maybe they’re already well-versed in all aspects of current and past issues. Or perhaps they know next-to-nothing about religious equality and you’re starting with a blank slate. Or maybe their knowledge falls somewhere in the middle.

Regardless, you’ll never know until you get them talking and
