About this ebook

Healing With Home Remedies

All over the world people use home remedies and resort to treatments by so-called "traditional doctors" and spiritual leaders. For hundreds of years, in some places, ancient customs and traditional treatments have been passed down from parents to children. Many health problems are solved well with traditional means, habits and beliefs and others can only be solved with modern treatments. It is important to respect the local habits and traditions of the population. There are beliefs, attitudes and habits in the community that are beneficial and help to solve some health problems. The community should be encouraged to continue using them. Some beliefs, attitudes and habits do not help or harm and can continue to be used. Other beliefs, attitudes and habits are harmful to health. It is necessary to try to modify these habits, but be careful not to offend people. Whether home remedies, or those prescribed by "traditional doctors" or spiritual leaders, or modern medicines, must be taken with care, obeying the correct doses.

Home remedies that help

Over the years, it has been proven that, for certain diseases, home remedies work just as well as modern drugs and sometimes even better. Those are generally cheaper and, in some cases, safer or less dangerous. For example, many herbal teas that people take at home to treat coughs and colds are better and cause fewer problems than cough syrups and other drugs that some doctors prescribe. Also, some home-made liquids, such as rice water and drinking water, are generally effective for treating diarrhea. The most important thing is that the baby with diarrhea drinks lots of fluids.

Limitations of home remedies

Some illnesses can be relieved with home remedies. Others can only be treated with modern medicines, as is the case with most serious infections. Diseases such as malaria, cholera, pneumonia, meningitis, tetanus, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections and fever that occurs after childbirth must be treated as quickly as possible with modern medicines. Children with convulsions (attacks) or rapid breathing, or those who are unable to drink or breastfeed, should also be treated with modern medications. For these diseases, you should not waste time trying to treat them first with home remedies. Some people use home remedies to treat snake bites. In certain places people believe that certain leaves are effective in treating these bites. Elsewhere, the use of black stone considered "special" is popular.

Fortunately, many cases of snake bites are caused by non-poisonous snakes and when they are caused by poisonous snakes, little or no poison is injected through the teeth. The home remedy appears to work. However, it is well known that some people die from snake bites, so it is always best to go quickly to the nearest health facility, where treatment can be administered, if necessary. AIDS is an example of a serious illness, for which there are now effective drugs in health services. These are called antiretrovirals. Although these drugs do not cure AIDS, they can provide great relief from the symptoms of the disease and allow the person to live for many more years. But, because AIDS is a disease that can lead to death, many drugs are being sold outside the health services that intend to treat this disease. These drugs DO NOT CURE THE DISEASE. There are some medicinal plants that can relieve some symptoms of AIDS. However, it is better to invest in a good diet and not in medicines that we are not sure if it works or not.
