Author

Marin Black

Marin has the mountains in her blood, heart, and soul. Her favorite romances would include an untamed setting (maybe an Irish ruin), a historical love affair (especially if there’s a ghost), or just a bad boy with a good heart. She loves to spend time with her son, hike, travel to wild and remote places, read, and camp in insanely crowded campgrounds—so she can burn all the food, keep the neighbors up all night with her campfire, and dream about what her characters will do next. And even though she writes “smut,” she still loves Jesus. At home, she loves to create new characters and their worlds, and is a freelance editor too. A Chance with a Mountain Man

Rolling down the car window in the driveway of the log cabin I’d rented, I filled my lungs with sweet Smoky Mountains air. It smelled of pine forest, a crisp, clean scent that instantly made me feel closer to nature. Just stepping out of the car, I felt more connected to Mother Earth and closer to finding the me who wasn’t always harried and half-listening for the phone to ring, waiting for the next disaster.

I sighed, and it seemed like I blew out stress as I popped open the trunk to retrieve my bag. Coming to the Smokies always rejuvenated me.

I needed this—needed the peace found here more than anything. My wedding-planner business had pushed aside any sense of peace I’d ever had. Each day was spent catering to brides who ranged from anxious to full-blown bridezillas. My stress level had built up to emergency proportions.

My phone beeped with a text, and I stiffened as I retrieved it from my pocket.

    —Are you there yet?—

I smiled at the message from my best friend, Shelley, who had talked me into this week of downtime at the cabin she’d used before as a getaway.

She’d been right about the rental being the right place for me. The primitive style of the logs mixed with the surrounding mountain foliage—rhododendrons and Virginia pines among oaks that had shed their leaves—was already making the ball of tension
