The Adventures of Sweetpea and Sugar - Ben Lague
Sugar
Chapter 1: The Adventures Of Sweetpea And Sugar
One day Sweetpea was feeling jumpy, and she jumped so high that she jumped over the wall of her guinea pig cage! Then Sweetpea looked over the cage at me, Sugar, and said, What are you doing still in there? Come on; let’s go before Ben gets here!
I don’t feel like climbing the wall today; I want to eat my lettuce,
said Sugar.
So Sweetpea answered, I know where all the food is stored in the kitchen!
I am coming out then!
hollered Sugar. Sugar took some lettuce and then his hay and made a pile to stand on. With one big blubbery jump, Sugar plopped onto the floor!
I hope this is worth it; I am hungry! Show me the FOOD!
said Sugar.
The two guinea pigs quietly waddled into the kitchen. But then, the mom walked in! Sweetpea ran over to the counter and hid behind a chair. Sugar hid by the heater. Quietly they waited for the mom to finish her cup of coffee. Finally she left.
Is the coast clear?
asked Sweetpea.
All clear,
answered Sugar.
The guinea pigs were getting very hungry! The countertops were as tall as sky scrapers to them! So, they got an idea! They both scurried back to their cage. Quickly they found their basket and filled it with hay and dragged it back to the kitchen. Then, they used the hay to make a pulley. They threw the hay onto the chair top. The other part was connected to the basket.
Sugar, you go in,
said Sweetpea.
Sugar answered, But, I am little!
Well that is the point. Hurry up!
replied Sweetpea.
Sweetpea pushed Sugar into the basket and began hoisting Sugar went up to the cabinets. Sugar was dead frightened! Sweetpea pulled with all of her might. Finally Sugar made it to the top. Sugar climbed out of the basket. Sweetpea I need a stick,
said Sugar. Then, all of a sudden, Ben came in!
Both guinea pigs hid quickly. Ben spotted the basket and hay pulley. He said out loud, Hmmmm, what is this doing here?
Wondering out loud he said, What is this? Are there rats in the kitchen?
Sweetpea was behind a chair. Sweetpea was as still as a rock, but made loud squealing noises: weetweetweetweet…
Ben saw Sweetpea and picked her up and put her in her cage.
How did you get out?
Ben wondered. And where is Sugar?!
Sugar hid behind the fruit bowl. Then, Ben began walking around the house calling out, Sugar, where are you?
Sugar quickly dumped all the food inside the basket. She had to work quickly! She filled the basket with bananas, lettuce, and cut up apples. Next, Sugar jumped into the basket on top of the food and through herself overboard. She heard Ben approaching. Sugar ran back biting onto the basket to her cage. She threw the basket over the cage, and it landed on Sweetpea’s head! Sweetpea yelled, Help somebody squished me! Oh, I smell food!
