Roger Carter would like to thank the following people:

Joan Wood for her kind help with proof-reading.

Hilary Standen for 'floating' the idea of this form of publishing.

Vincent Walsh of Rossendale Books for his patience and understanding when dealing with a digital world novice.

I often wonder what Shakespeare would have written and said about this digital age!

    PREFACE

The poems in this volume represent different periods in my life from 1981 onwards. In recent times I decided I wanted to create a 'themed ' book of poems as eventually I would have enough to make this possible.

The poems are fashioned in different styles from prose to varied rhyme patterns. In essence they are more traditional in style than perhaps more modern poetry - but that is how I am.

The poems are based on my personal experience, my philosophy and thoughts regarding the spectrum of the subject matter - you may like to guess which are personal and which are not!

The poems are not meant to be abstruse allowing for any poetic licence, and hopefully most of them will be understood. As the author I prefer some of the poems to others - no doubt the reader will too.

Finally I hope the reader enjoys this book of poems.

    NEW LOVE

My love is new, in mint condition

    My own issue

    Not withdrawn, in circulation

    My money’s worth.

My love is new like a dew

    I am moist watery eyed,

    Dawned upon

    This is the day.

My love is new, mown to me

    Cut to size

    I will grass to this,

A growth that blooms my heart.

My love is new, up to the minute

    Ticking away, away, away

    Second to none

    My time.

My love is new, born to me

    A wondrous certificate

    A life mark

    Of no control.

    My love is new, first-hand

    Love in glove,

    Love in love,

    Love and foot.

    My love is new, hot-off-the-press,

    A hearty headline

    Printed within me,

    My report.

My love is new, this is contemporariness

    Conferred upon me ,

My fashion, a style I adore,

    Love’s epoch.

    NO MORE LOVE

Now that love’s tycoon has abated,

No more shall one be whisked away,

    By love’s transcendence.

    No more shall one waft,

Upon the air of love’s breathe.

Now that hurricane Love has ceased,

No more shall the gust of love,

Blow the sight of sense away.

    No more shall love’s blizzard,

    Block the road to reason.

Now that love’s cyclone has gone,

No more shall the flurry of love,

Move the heart from it’s home.

    No more shall love’s squall,

    Disturb one’s tranquility.

Now that love’s tornado has decreased,

No more shall the blast of love,

Destroy the self that succumbs to love.

No more shall the wind of love,

Carry one away in a totality of thought.

Now that love’s tempest has moderated,

    No more shall love’s storm,

Be a torrent that torments temperament.

No more shall the gales of love,

Bend the soul from its sanity.

Now that love’s whirlwind has subsided,

    No more shall love’s flaw

    Swell the sea of stability.

No more shall the currents of love,

    Direct the course of life.

    HUMAN REJECTION

Human rejection, as if defective model,

    Rebuffed, snubbed. and unwanted.

Discarded like an empty cigarette packet,

    Spurned contemptibly, unsympathetically.

    Disapproved, considered unsuitable,

Renounced as if a bad habit.

Human rejection, unaccepted like a dud cheque,

    Refused seemingly a poor offer.

    Disowned as if a criminal,

    Repudiated like a bad debt.

    Denied as if non-existent,

Declined like an invitation to the police ball.

Human rejection, as if bent coin to a slot machine,

    Or disclaimed as if invalid,

Or excluded as if being dropped from a team.

Repulsed as if an offending presence.

Dismissed as if a failed case.

Cast off like the hair of a dog in moult.

Human rejection, a test for resolve.

    It motivates resistance,

    Enlivens emotions,

    Animates analysis,

    Challenges character,

Overcome, it helps make the man.

    A FLIRTING THOU ART

    A flirting thou art,

    A deception to the heart,

    So no real intent,

    Nothing meant.

    Nothing to gain,

    But much to explain.

    A flirting thou art,

    Some way to be smart,

    Dallying with a fellow,

    Towards your bordello.

    With coquetry to the fore,

    As if some whore.

    A flirting thou art,

    As if some tart,

    Trifling with the boy,

    For your perverse joy.

    A wanton way

    To have your say.

    A flirting thou art,

    Another tick for your chart,

    Leading the man
