The Frost-Flower Artists - Dawn Avalon
One
In the distance, a soft melody sounded. Carrying a shivering cold. Freezing everything on its way. Flako looked around and saw the puddle of water on the road suddenly transform into ice. Not even a second later a thin layer of ice, also covered the window he was standing in front of. This is what he was waiting for. Just like thousands of other Frost-Flowers Artists. They, the Artists and the Snowqueen, arrived from Snowflake-Kingdom to grace the windows with Frost-Flowers. Almost on every windowsill were little figures between ten and eighteen centimetres tall. They had prominent sparkling ice-blue eyes and light- to dark blue hair. Flako, being about twelve centimetres tall, was just working on his last assignment when somebody suddenly shouted: Flako. Look out! Hold on!
Hey? Who shouted at me? He looked around, but could not see anybody. He looked up and just saw big grey clouds covering the sky. One second later, it started to storm quite heavily. Hailstones as big as his head glanced off his magic cloak. They clattered against the windowsill next to him. Although, he could not be hurt; Flako felt a bit nervous. Something was wrong. Perhaps it would be better if he left the windowsill. One last glance at his half-finished frost-flower, upon which he shrugged his shoulders. It was too dangerous to finish the flower. There are hundredths of Frost-Flower Painters and everyone got away but him? Flako sighed. Unbelievable that this had to happen to him! First, all his friends were gone. Then the terrible hailstorm, which was not prompted by his Snowqueen. He was very sure of that. No, somewhere near was a frightful ice-witch. But where? In addition, maybe even more important: Had she discovered him yet? Flako was right. Hidden behind the trunk of a car, a small strange creature was glancing at him. A hundred and ten centimetres of torture, featuring a big nose, long chin and frosted hair-spines.
Hit him,
she hissed. The hailstorm was unquestionably prompted by her. But was not nearly the limit of her capabilities. She also could transform herself into any shape she wanted! One motion with her hand and the wind raged at Flako. The witch wanted to steal his magic-cloak, so he would be vulnerable! Flako noticed the wind pulling and pushing. Darn. Before long he might fall! Oh no!
He cried out. The wind stole his cloak! Quickly the tiny boy reached out with his hand. Too late! The cloak disappeared over the rooftop. Ouch
That hurt! The first hailstone had already hit him! Flako swallowed against the lump in his throat. His tiny lips trembled.
Don’t cry,
he firmly talked to himself. Oh no! Another one came directly at him! With a little scream, the tiny boy landed in a mountain of snow. There he remained to lie still and
