Off the Force
Where’s those two SOB’s!
Chief Forester was hot under the collar. It was not so much that he had two officers that really did anything wrong. He just didn’t like them to begin with. Now there was finally a reason he could use to get them off his police force.
There was nothing that the Chief hated more than officers that argued and didn’t know their place. All they had to do was what they were told, but not those two. No, they had to act like they had some sort of authority to make their out calls and do what they wanted over their supervisor’s orders.
Sure they saved a few lives by disobeying orders, but the Chief had never gotten over the little voice in his head telling him that they knew enough to get him in a lot of trouble to. Before they got a chance to use it, Chief Forester intended to get rid of them once and for all.
Sergeant Perkins knew what the Chief was up to, and he didn’t like it one bit. The two officers that were about to lose their badges were the best men he had ever supervised. You’re making a mistake Chief.
Chief Forester had just about had enough of his Sergeant’s mouth. Perkins was right, but Perkins didn’t know why the Chief hated these particular two men either. When I want your opinion I’ll ask for it Sergeant Perkins.
Forester gave a lot of emphasis on the word Sergeant, mostly just to make a point of their rank difference.
Yes sir.
Perkins replied in as sarcastic of a tone as he could muster. The Chief needed a good punch in the mouth for all Perkins was concerned. There were plenty of officers that would like the opportunity to do that job to.
Two men walked into the Chief’s office before anything more could be said. That was probably a good thing for the pissed of Sergeant. It wouldn’t have taken much more too really set him off on his superior, if you could really say that a fat old man that didn’t know his rear end from a hole in the ground was superior in any way.
You wanted to see us Chief Forester?
Officer Adam Turner’s tone was respectful, though in truth Adam only respected Forester’s rank. He knew that his long time partner and himself were both in for big trouble, and being respectful always paid off more than saying what he really wanted to say. Adam just hoped his partner and best friend would play along. At least until they knew for sure that they were out of a job.
The Chief looked the two men over for a moment. Officer Adam Turner and Officer Sam Gordon, you two just can’t seem to follow orders can you?
Sam gave the Chief a glare. That was what Adam was afraid of. Forester knew exactly how to push Sam’s buttons. Maybe when the orders sound like they won’t get people killed we’ll start listening Chief! How bout that?
That was just where Chief Forester wanted to get them. Just a hint of a smirk formed on the Chief’s mouth. Sam hadn’t seen it, but Adam sure did. That was when Adam knew that they didn’t have a chance. The whole meeting was set up with no chance for them in mind.
When they had first walked in Adam had noticed how angry his Sergeant looked. That was the second big clue. The first one was just the fact that they had been called into the Chief’s office before they had even had a chance to debrief with the Captain on the hostage situation they had just come back from.
You better watch your mouth Officer Gordon!
The Chief was playing angry, but deep down that outburst was exactly what he wanted from the two men. Don’t make this worse than it already is.
Sam took a step forward, but Perkins put himself in between Sam and the Chief. There was no reason to add battery charges to what was so far just an internal issue. Please Sam.
Perkins looked Sam right in the eyes to silently plead for Sam to stop.
I’m suspending both of you until the Internal Affairs Investigator is done looking over the incident.
That was just a formality. It really didn’t matter what the investigator reported back to the Chief. The city regulations simply stated that an investigation of all incidents had to be conducted and closed before an officer was terminated.
Adam and Sam looked at each other. They knew without even saying it that they were finished with the department. At least they would still draw pay while they were on suspension though. Hopefully the investigation would drag out so they would have time to find something else to do.
There were few things that Adam hated more than these political department games. Everyone was out to get each other. You’d fire us on the spot if that wasn’t a requirement, wouldn’t you?
Adam knew he didn’t really need to ask, but he wanted to hear the Chief’s response.
Get out of my office before I find a reason to arrest you myself.
The Chief knew that the two young officers were not intimidated in the least, but he knew they both loved being cops to. Just knowing that he was going to take that away from them was enough.
Glaring into the Chief’s eyes, Sam was furious. He wanted to rip the old man apart. How could anyone be such an asshole that they would want to get rid of two men that would probably be celebrated heroes on the news for the next couple of weeks?
What the hell is your problem?
Sam asked. We do our jobs every day and save lives just so you can rip us a new one every chance you get. What we did today will probably make the news forget all about all the crap they’ve been saying bout you the last few months Chief.
Sam believed the Chief had to know that was true.
There was no show of emotion from Forester, even though he knew Sam was probably right. There were officers that had made him look bad. Would it be questioned that those men were still on the force while he worked overtime to get rid of the two men standing before him? Forester really didn’t care enough to linger on it for more than a few moments.
After a short awkward moment where everyone just seemed to be standing around looking at each other, it surprised even himself that Adam was the first to make the next move. "You do whatever the
