    CHAPTER 1

Virgo Consequences: Never Fall in Love with a Married Woman

Ahmed Inman, come see me in my office after roll call. What the hell could this be about? Ahmed thought to himself. Okay, Sergeant, Ahmed replied. There was a tone of major concern in Sergeant Phelps’ voice. Ahmed had somehow recently worked his way into Sergeant Phelps’ doghouse over the past six months. He had become a little lackadaisical on the job. Two months ago, Ahmed had been reprimanded for not properly handcuffing a suspect, who eventually attacked an officer while being booked. Just four months ago, a defense attorney ate him up on the stands in court, because Ahmed failed to properly obtain a search warrant before conducting a search and seizure on a suspected drug dealer’s home.

Ahmed walked into Sergeant Phelp’s office wide eyed and nervous. What’s up Sarge? Ahmed asked, while his heart pumped furiously. Have a seat Inman. Ahmed sat in the chair directly across from Sergeant Phelps’ messy desk. Your partner, Parker, decided to retire earlier than expected. Ahmed was somewhat surprised about the news. Ahmed and Parker had been patrol partners for the past four and a half years. I figured he would try to stick it out another five years. He wasn’t too happy about his finances, Ahmed said. Well, he isn’t coming back at all. He is going to use his sick leave, and officially retire in two more months Phelps said in an irritated manner.

I selected your new partner, maybe she can keep you focused. She? Ahmed asked, wondering curiously who could it be. Yes, she, her name is Candie Padilla. Do you have a problem working with a female partner? Ahmed thought for a few seconds. No sir, I don’t. Ahmed really didn’t have a problem working with females. He just believed from past experiences that females were all about trouble in the work environment. Virgo Consequence One: Virgo’s have a habit of being passive, especially when they don’t sense any serious repercussions from their passiveness. Most females in the department needed, or desired attention from all of the male staff that was willing to massage their egos. Ahmed noticed that females would date one guy after another in the department.

Women would usually go out of their way to demand a man’s attention, or they would walk around being conceited, as if the world revolved around them. Ahmed didn’t want any part of it. After working for the Mansfield Police Department for nine years, he had lost a lot of respect for women in the work environment. Ahmed left Sergeant Phelps’ office with a sick feeling in his stomach. A female partner is the last thing that Ahmed wanted or needed. Ahmed was a single man in his thirties, who had never been married, nor did he have any children. He dated successfully for years, but never could find the perfect match that he would consider to be a life time partner. He blamed it on his willingness to strive for perfection, a known characteristic of the typical Virgo. After studying his zodiac sign, he knew that it was hard for Virgo men and women to settle down with a person who wasn’t up to their high standards. Virgo consequence number two: Virgos are extremely analytical individuals. Dating is an adventure for Virgos. Virgos can be so picky, about who they date, and what they like that it sometimes leads to an unrealistic fantasy of what is feasible and what is not. Ahmed’s mind was full of panic. He desperately started to ask around to find out more about Ms. Candie Padilla. Unfortunately, he was just going to have to wait until Monday morning to meet her.

It was a long weekend. All Ahmed could think about was how to handle Ms. Padilla. Monday morning finally arrived, and Sergeant Phelps conducted roll call as usual. Ahmed looked around the room. He didn’t see Candie. Ahmed asked his good friend Ezell. Ezell, have you seen the new chick Candie. She is going to be my new partner. No, I haven’t, but I heard a lot about her. Like what? Ahmed asked in a panicky tone. I heard she is fine, and the girl’s got a nice size rack on her, Ezell said, while smirking. Dude, you are lucky. That was exactly what Ahmed didn’t want to hear. Inman and Bridges, do you have something more important to talk about? Sergeant Phelps asked. No Sir, Ahmed fired back quickly. Well, I will like to introduce our newest member to the East Side Division, Ms. Candie Padilla. She walked into the room with a long elegant stride. She was like a goddess fresh out of a glamour magazine.

Tall and graceful, every step she took appeared as if she was gliding on ice. Her long fine hard and glowing shine was something similar to the man of a well groomed, prized thoroughbred. Her fair skin had a glowing radiance of a shining star in the night. Ahmed knew at that moment, that he was in major trouble. His worst fears were now reality. Candie introduced herself to everyone with a smile, as if she was seducing everyone in the room. After roll call, Ahmed immediately went to Sergeant Phelps’ office. Boss can I have a word with you? Sure, what’s troubling you? he said. Boss, I’m not really comfortable working with Ms. Padilla. Sergeant Phelps paused for second, and gave Ahmed a grimacing look. You know what Inman, I always wondered if you were gay. Ahmed looked at Sergeant Phelps with a stunned look. He then burst out into laughter.

Well, Sergeant since you took this concern in a non-professional direction, you probably wish you could borrow my penis for one day. I’ve had some of the finest women that your peanut mind could ever fantasize about. Sergeant Phelps now appeared to be the stunned one. He couldn’t think of any response worthy to fire back with. Well, Inman, the woman is nice, she is attractive and she’s got the boobies that every man dreams about. It is too bad you that are stuck with her. I’m expecting you to train her the right way, Sergeant Phelps said, in a very stern way.

That is exactly what I mean boss. She could be a major distraction, Ahman said.

Don’t worry. From what I heard, she is married to an Army Captain and she has three kids. She shouldn’t be a problem. You will be alright Inman said Sergeant Phelps.

Okay, Sergeant, but I’m really not feeling this at all. Ahmed convinced himself that everything would be alright, or at least he was hoping. A couple days later, the adventure with Ms. Padilla started. Hello Ahmed, it is so nice to meet you. I’m very excited to work with you. Ahmed thought that it was typical cordial bullshit. Ahmed noticed that Candie had a charming smile. He knew it would be trouble for him. She seemed to be borderline flirtatious. So, are you fresh out of the Academy? Ahmed asked to make serious short talk. Yes, the Academy was very interesting. I learned a lot and I’m ready to take my career to the next level. Ahmed thought, this woman just got out of the Academy, and she is all ready to conquer the Mansfield Police Department."

So, Ahmed how long have you been on the force?

    For about nine years now.

So what are your plans? Candie asked.

What do you mean? Ahmed asked, in an irritated way.

Do you plan on getting promoted to Sergeant, Detective, Captain, or Commissioner? Candie asked.

My plans are to survive this job, retire, and live happily ever after. Ahmed was now very irritated by Mrs. Padilla’s ambitiousness. He wasn’t enjoying the conversation with Candie, so he decided to change the direction of the conversation. So Candie, where are you from? I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I moved to Connecticut when I was ten years old.

Ironically I met my husband in New Jersey when I was in college. He is also from Rio de Janeiro.

Ahmed noticed that Candie immediately changed the subject after mentioning her husband. Ahmed immediately recognized something was wrong. He decided to bring up the topic of her husband another time. The streets of Mansfield were unusually quiet that day. Ahmed and Candie only received one domestic violence disturbance call. Ahmed was driving, when the two received the call from the dispatcher. Working patrol for the police department requires the officers to be prompt when receiving a call to report a specific location.

Candie was very impressed with Ahmed’s ability to find the location. After arriving at the scene, Candie and Ahmed proceeded to the house that made the distress call. Hopefully, I can master the art of geography the way you do, Candie said, while chuckling in a flirty complimenting way.

Ahmed tried to ignore the compliment to focus on the unexpected. Candie you have to focus. We don’t know what we are about to deal with. Ahmed said.

Candie knocked on the door. Mansfield Police Department, please open up, Candie yelled. A little girl opened the door.

Hello sweetie, where are your parents? Candie asked.

They are in the kitchen, she said.

Ahmed decided to let Candie take the lead. When Candie and Ahmed arrived in the kitchen, there was a woman sobbing with her hair and face dripping with water. He dumped my face in the kitchen sink, the woman said in an upset tone.

She threw a punch, and I pushed her out of the way, the man said.

You’re a fucking liar. You dumped my face in the water in front of our kids, the woman screamed.

Okay ma’am, calm down, Candie said in a soft tone.

    "Do you want
