About this ebook
It all started when he spotted a hard cart on the other side of the swollen river.

Most of these stories are marked adult and have been described as different and often involve boy toys and a little social commentary. They aren't to everyone's taste but some people enjoy them. They are in British English even if set in North America. If you enjoy one, try another, if they aren't to your taste just move on to a different author. Some are set in Regency England and explore a time when there were many changes over a short period of time. These are very not so mainstream and not quite so light hearted as some of the others.

Sam looked across the swollen river. He could see a handcart that had been left behind in the retreat. Tom, reckon we can salvage it?
The river's a bit fast but if we took it apart we could bring it back on ropes.
Sam turned to his men. Any volunteers to swim the river carrying a rope?
His men tried hard to look inconspicuous.
Find me a rope then and lance corporal you're in command whilst I'm gone.
He walked upstream to find a suitable place to enter the water. He tied the rope round his waist and took off his boots. He slid into the cool water and slowly walked out into the river. The current finally swept him off his feet but a few strokes had him close to the other bank and he pulled himself up with the help of some tree roots.
He hauled on the rope and tied it carefully round a tree. Then he hauled in a second line and pulley. Soon he had the handcart in parts and each part was hoisted across the river.
Finally he retied the rope in such a way that it would hold as he crossed but a tug on the second line would release it. Rope and tackle was hard to come by. Paul had liberated theirs from a limber wagon. He dried himself off and changed into his spare dry uniform and looked over his charges. Still now they had handcart to help carry whatever supplies they could lay their hands on.

You mean I’m to follow his orders?
