    Chapter one

    A letter to Santa Claus

    It was the first day of December, 4 p.m. Darkness laid on the town of Tornio in the north of Finland and its roads were covered by snow.

    In one of those roads a child named Joose went home from school to his grandmother’s house; he had moved here to live with her since last summer.

    In his way he passed the small square in the town’s centre and saw the trees there, all decorated with tiny lamps whose bright colors reflected on the snow. Snow was everywhere. Like a big white carpet it covered the square where there was a big balloon of Santa Claus to celebrate Christmas, which would come soon…
