As I sat in the school corridor in silence, my teacher slowly closed the classroom door.
‘Sorry, Michelle,’ she smiled awkwardly.
Aged 8, I hung my head as the start of Jingle Bells and laughter erupted in the classroom.
It was December 1976, and my primary school’s Christmas party.
Yet, just like every other year, I wasn’t allowed to go.
Mum and Dad were strict Jehovah’s Witnesses, and didn’t believe in celebrating Christmas at all.
No tree, no presents, no parties.
