Precious Memories
Ch 1 BW.pngDo you remember when you first came here?
A young woman barely brushing five feet in height gazed up at a young man who was eighteen inches higher than her. Her head tilted back with long blonde strands brushing past their usual place at the small of her back.
Aye,
he nodded with a short laugh. The black hair on his head brushed freely on his cheeks. I came wandering in then found you.
More than found, you chased me,
she replied with a laugh. Her green eyes sparkled as they gazed into his black ones.
Yes, though the garden and into the bushes. You gave me a shock when you changed from a child to a woman.
You recovered from it quickly though.
I had to otherwise I would have been a blabbering idiot.
He replied with a laugh.
You had your moments.
She said with a grin.
Tease,
he laughed.
Only in earnest, love,
she laughed.
I’ll miss you, Lyndie.
I’ll miss you too.
Her laughter faded. She leaned in to rest her head on his arm. I wish you didn’t have to go.
I know, but I have to eventually. It’s already been half a year since the first time I said I had to go.
As he sighed he moved his hand to rest on her shoulder. Soon it will be too late in the year to travel.
Lyndie made an annoyed face. I know. But you’re gone more than you are here.
Now you have more to do than play with me.
Danny shook his head. He let his hand drop down her back. You’re going to be coroneted queen of two kingdoms. I have to go back to my land to see what’s happening with my own kingdom.
I know.
She lowered her head as a sigh passed her lips. I guess I’m just afraid that we will be too busy to spend any time together.
I share that fear with you, but if you dwell in it too much then we won’t be able to enjoy the memories of the time we had and the time we will have.
He pulled her to him in a gentle hug.
She wrapped both of her arms around his waist. With a wistful sigh she hugged him tightly. I’m sorry, Danny.
It’s okay, Lyndie.
He smiled softly as he tightened his embrace. After a few minutes of tender silence he pulled away. I’m going to tell Bella goodbye, then I will be gone.
The young woman nodded slowly. She gently pulled away from him. A faintly worried look hovered in her eyes, but it was negated by her smiling lips. Okay. Goodbye Danny, please be safe and come back soon.
Look for me in the spring.
He smiled and pressed his fingers to his lips to blow a kiss. Then he turned and walked away from her.
Before him a path turned to dodge through patches of garden which contained all sorts of flowers. Where they ended a cottage surrounded by fruit trees and berry bushes came into view. Behind that was a lake surrounded my meadow. Around all of this was a ring of trees that made a forest barrier which separated it from the land from that bordered it.
Danny wandered down the path to the fruit forest by the cottage. He knew that the woman he wanted to see would be there with her newfound family. A smile turned his lips as he remembered the shocked look on Bella’s face as she was swarmed on when they arrived. He broke from the inner vision to look around at the people plucking fruit to eat from the trees.
Danny!
He turned to look in the direction the voice had come from. A grin formed and he raised his hand to wave at the woman who appeared. Hey Bella.
The woman ran up to his side. Her shoulder length blue hair bounced as she moved. She grinned at him while she stopped to stand by him. Hey.
Her hands folded behind her back to keep her from nervously tugging at her orange dress. What are you up to?
I came to see you actually.
He smiled, head tilting to look down at her. Silently he marveled how when they first met she’d been half a foot taller than he, but now he was the one half a foot taller than her. I wanted to say goodbye.
The happy look faded from her pale blue eyes. They flicked away from him to gaze off into nothing. You’re leaving now?
Yes, I’ve tarried perhaps too long.
She nodded slowly then let a sigh pass her lips. Well I hope you have a good journey to your home.
Thank you Bella. I may be back in the springtime if all goes well.
And if it doesn’t?
I think you know.
She finally lifted her eyes to gaze up at him. You’ll never come back.
He nodded faintly then let a soft smile turn his lips. That’s the worst case scenario. You know I’ll do everything I can to come back.
But not for me.
You know I can’t return those feelings, but I do care for you as a friend.
She nodded then broke the gaze to stare off into the distance. I know. We’ve talked about that. It doesn’t mean I can’t love you still.
Bella smiled weakly. I still wish you and Lyndie the best of luck. I’ll miss you while you’re gone.
I’ll miss you too.
He continued to smile softly down at her. His hand moved up to rest on her shoulder. Don’t think because I can’t love you like you want that I don’t care for you at all.
I know.
Her weak smile continued as she glanced up at him. Her hands dropped to her sides while she stepped back away from him.
Will you see me off?
Bella bit her lower lip as she considered his request. She nodded faintly. Then she stepped to walk past him down the path. I will. Lyndie’s waiting for you there too I assume.
She probably is.
Danny replied. He turned and followed after her. Once Lyndie was in view he waved to her, but did not go to her side. If he did he knew that he would not want to leave.
Lyndie smiled at Danny and returned his wave. She turned her footsteps to try and join the two. As Danny continued to walk on past her she turned to stand with Bella instead.
The older woman paused at the end of the path. As the younger stood by her she moved her arm to hang loosely around her shoulders. The other arm lifted to wave after the young man. Goodbye Danny.
Goodbye,
the younger woman called out as well.
Goodbye Lyndie, goodbye Bella.
Danny waved as he set off into the
