LOVE AND OTHER NASTINESS

LONESOME ACHE
There is a dull ache spreading in my chest,
I wonder what it could be?
It lives between my throat and stomach,
But it’s difficult to describe, you see?
I went to my local doctor,
But he could find nothing wrong.
Mind if I ask you a few questions old chap?
I replied, Of course, go on.
Are you a smoker?
Perhaps a fan of whisky? Or Rum?
But I could only shake my head,
No, sir, none of the above, none!
Several days later,
The ache grew worse and worse,
But what was this pain, I thought?
A sign? A signal? A Curse?
So I climbed the highest building,
The tallest I could find,
And threw myself from the top
To take this ache from my mind.
